Seller's Description

The 2025 limited-edition ATH-M50x ENSO professional monitor headphones celebrate the classic, all-black style of the original M50x, launched in 2014 – but with a twist. For the first time, we’ve incorporated custom engraving on the earcups and headband, reflecting both sound waves and the brushstrokes found in Japanese ink paintings of the Enso circle. And just as the Enso represents the cyclical nature of life, so the M50x ENSO returns us to the sophisticated black color of the original M50x, after releasing a spectrum of limited-edition colors over the years.

Of course, nothing has changed about the legendary sound quality or construction of these M50x headphones. Featuring 45 mm large-aperture drivers with copper-clad aluminium wire voice coils, plush sound isolation pads, and an over-ear design, the ATH-M50x ENSO delivers studio-quality sound with exceptional clarity throughout an extended frequency range and deep, accurate bass response. Plus, the earcups swivel 90° for convenient, one-ear monitoring and collapse or fold flat for easy portability.

Each pair of M50x ENSO headphones is engraved with a unique serial number, identifying it as one of only 5,000 pairs sold worldwide. As a special bonus, 200 randomly selected boxes contain a postcard that awards the lucky purchaser with our exclusive ENSO accessory kit, which includes a headphone case and a special furoshiki cloth custom-made by Kyoto-based dyeing factory, Bamba.

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

At USD199 for a used ATH-M50x ENSO limited edition, this matches the original new retail price from 2025, making it ambitious on the secondhand market. With only 5,000 pairs worldwide and quick sellouts back then, pristine examples might hold value, but typical used M50x variants trade in the USD120-160 range depending on condition—anything over USD150 feels steep without proof of low hours or the rare accessory kit.

Buyers should verify the serial number on the earcups matches an authentic ENSO pair, as fakes circulate, and inspect the detachable cables (coiled 1.2-3m, straight 3m, straight 1.2m) plus pouch for completeness—replacements add up. Check earpad integrity too; these wear fast under heavy studio use, showing cracks or flattening after a year.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About Audio-Technica

Founded in 1962 in Tokyo's Shinjuku district by Hideo Matsushita, Audio-Technica began as a phonograph cartridge specialist, launching the innovative AT-1 moving-magnet model with a diamond-tipped cantilever that revolutionized affordable high-fidelity playback. Starting with just three employees in a rented house and one million yen in capital, the company quickly expanded, supplying cartridges to Japanese audio manufacturers and relocating as demand surged. This heritage of precision engineering and democratic access to superior sound defines its enduring Japanese craftsmanship.

Audio-Technica has broadened far beyond cartridges into a comprehensive lineup of hi-fi essentials, excelling in headphones, professional microphones, turntables, and phonographic styli.
