Seller's Description

Overview
The solid black walnut wood housing, with its beautiful grain and natural texture, allows you to enjoy a natural sound that is comfortable to listen to, from the rich and firm depth of the bass range to the muddy and extended high frequency range.

The RP technology, which has been improved by our own technology for 50 years, has been used in the 4th generation of RP drivers.Furthermore, the components of the magnetic circuit have been redesigned to optimize the magnetic flux distribution, thereby suppressing unwanted resonance of the diaphragm and achieving a sharp response in the rise and fall of the sound. The fourth-generation driver, developed by fully introducing various technologies cultivated over the years, simultaneously achieves improved sensitivity, smooth frequency response for easy monitoring, and excellent transient characteristics. The new driver enables accurate and subtle reproduction of low and high frequencies, resulting in a more accurate sense of localization and reproduction of the sound field. In addition, as in the past, the new product offers reliable quality through integrated manufacturing at the company’s own factory.

Connectors are provided on both the left and right housings, and a newly developed Y-cable connection is used. 2-pole 3.5 mm connectors improve re-cabling compatibility and increase versatility. The cable uses a high-quality sound OFC conductor.

The earpads are low-resilience, around-the-ear earpads for a comfortable fit and can be used comfortably for extended periods of listening. The earpads can be fitted with optional Toray Ultrasuede® earpads (EX-EP-RP-SUEDE), which are sold separately. These earpads are soft to the touch and provide high quality sound from low to high frequencies.

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

At USD600, this Fostex AMS-T60RPMK2 ask sits squarely in the fair zone for a used Premium Mahogany semi-open RP set—right around the median of USD428 from 49 recent comparables, with the market spanning USD250 at the low end to USD1,143 for top-condition pairs. It's no steal, but not ambitious either if the wood finish gleams and drivers hum cleanly; premium mahogany builds like this hold value well among RP fans chasing that warm, detailed soundstage.

Before biting, verify the RP drivers for diaphragm degradation—common in these 2010s-era models from prolonged high-volume use, potentially muddying mids. Insist on original padded headband, detachable cable, and maker's serial-matched box; missing bits can shave USD100+ off resale, and test for headband pivot play, a frequent wear point.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About Fostex

Fostex emerged in 1973 as the branded consumer and professional division of Foster Electric Co., Ltd., a Japanese loudspeaker manufacturer founded in 1949. Established to bring Foster's high-quality speaker components directly to dealers and customers, Fostex quickly gained international recognition through innovative products like the T20RP headphones and 6301 studio monitors. The brand's foundation rests on Foster's position as one of the world's largest OEM loudspeaker developers, employing tens of thousands across multiple countries and manufacturing millions of speaker units monthly.

The company built its reputation across three interconnected product categories: professional studio equipment, consumer headphones, and powered monitor speakers. Fostex became particularly renowned for pioneering RP (Regular Phase) technology, which delivers clear sound with high sensitivity and wide dynamic range—a signature that defines their headphones, microphones, and speaker designs. Beginning in 1978, the brand expanded into professional speaker development, eventually introducing the PM series of powered monitors and establishing itself as a trusted choice for recording studios, broadcast facilities, and serious home listeners.

Fostex occupies a distinctive middle ground in the audio market: neither ultra-premium boutique nor mass-market consumer, but rather a respected specialist brand with deep professional credentials. Their products appeal to recording engineers, studio owners, and discerning hi-fi enthusiasts who prioritize accuracy and reliability over luxury positioning. The 6301B monitor remains an industry standard after decades in production, while the T20RP headphones maintain popularity among studio professionals—testament to Fostex's enduring reputation for sonic integrity and engineering excellence.
