This is a buyer’s market for this arm: at €13,750, it sits a touch below the €14,644 median and comfortably above the €7,410 25th percentile, so it reads as fair to slightly attractive, not a deep bargain and not ambitious. In a category with a wide spread between the lower and upper halves of the market, that placement is exactly where a well-kept example can make sense without feeling overcooked.
What makes it appealing is the combination of Thales’ reputation for precision, low-friction engineering, and the fact that this is a good-condition example, which is where these higher-end arms tend to hold value. If the mounting hardware, counterweight, and any special-spec parts are complete, the upside is a serious arm that can anchor a long-term analog setup; at this price, I’d mainly verify completeness and smooth operation rather than look for hidden problems.

# Thales Tonearm
Thales is a Swiss manufacturer founded by Micha Huber, a mechanical engineer and lifelong audio enthusiast who studied both music and machine engineering before working in precision watch design. The company, operating under HiFiction AG, emerged around 2008 when Huber's innovative tonearm design gained recognition among discerning vinyl enthusiasts. His background in watchmaking precision and medical-device engineering directly informed the brand's obsessive attention to mechanical tolerances and material science.
The brand specializes exclusively in tonearms and turntables, with tonearm design as its core competency. Huber's breakthrough innovation was solving a longstanding analog challenge: combining the low-friction advantages of a pivoted tonearm with the tracking accuracy of linear tangential arms. His patented solution uses pivot points arranged on what Thales calls the "Thales Circle," achieving tracking error as low as 0.0006 percent—approaching true linear tracking without the mechanical complexity. The product line includes models such as the Simplicity, Simplicity II, Easy, and Statement tonearms, each representing refinements of this core philosophy.
Thales occupies the high-end boutique segment, commanding premium pricing justified by hand-crafted construction, exotic materials including diamond-coated bearings and high-damping aluminum alloys, and uncompromising engineering. The brand appeals to analog purists and collectors willing to invest substantially for measurable improvements in tracking geometry and mechanical rigidity. Though relatively obscure outside dedicated vinyl circles, Thales has cultivated a devoted international following among audiophiles who prioritize geometric correctness and Swiss precision manufacturing over mass-market accessibility.
