Seller's Description

Dynamic, transparent, and profoundly musical, the Rogue Sphinx v3 sets a new standard in affordable integrated amplifiers. Utilizing sophisticated circuitry borrowed from our most advanced designs, the Sphinx is able to outperform separates costing far more than this single box design. And with 100 watts of hybrid power, this integrated is capable of realistic volume levels that will rival the clarity and presence of the original performance.

The Sphinx v3 contains a discrete MOSFET headphone amplifier capable of driving even the most demanding headphones. An excellent user adjustable phono with 44/60dB of gain will accommodate your favorite MM or MC cartridge. Active and fixed outputs allow for the addition of a subwoofer or other outboard devices, and the active output is driven by the tubes for the best possible sound. A high capacity linear power supply provides tremendous energy storage to recreate the deepest bass passages while various regulated power supply stages provide ultra smooth sound in the midrange and treble. The machined aluminum faceplate is available in either black or silver to compliment the rest of your components and the remote further adds the convenience of remote volume operation.

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

This US$1,399 asking price is ambitious for a used Rogue Audio Sphinx V3, sitting well above the median of US$1,199 and exceeding the 75th percentile of US$1,266 from your recent comparable listings. While the new retail price hovers around US$1,495–US$1,599, the used market for this hybrid tube/Class-D integrated has softened, with recent comps clustering near US$1,174–US$1,266, making this listing roughly 17% higher than the median.

The Sphinx V3 remains a compelling value proposition for its hybrid design, offering 100W per channel, a built-in phono stage, and a high-end look with thick metal construction, but at US$1,399 you’re paying close to new retail for a used unit. Unless this listing includes original accessories, is in pristine original-owner condition, or represents a rare timing opportunity before the V4 dominates attention, a fairer entry point would be closer to the US$1,199 median.

About Rogue Audio

Rogue Audio was founded in 1996 by Mark O'Brien and two colleagues from Bell Laboratories, establishing itself as a Pennsylvania-based manufacturer of high-quality audio electronics. The company, headquartered in Brodheadsville in the Pocono region, has built its reputation on American craftsmanship, with every product hand-built at its own facility. O'Brien, who holds a degree in physics from Cal Poly and previously worked designing laser systems, brought both technical expertise and a commitment to sonic excellence to the venture. The company's founding philosophy centered on creating audio components that the designers themselves would want to own.

Rogue Audio specializes in tube, solid-state, and hybrid audio components across a focused product range that includes integrated amplifiers, power amplifiers, preamplifiers, phono stages, and headphone amplifiers. The brand is particularly known for its vacuum-tube-based designs, which form the core of its engineering identity. The current lineup comprises approximately 16 to 17 models, each engineered with meticulous attention to circuit topology and layout. Notable products include the Cronus integrated amplifier series, which has become a reference point in the mid-to-high-end market.

Rogue Audio occupies a distinctive position as a boutique, high-end manufacturer that prioritizes value and accessibility without compromising sonic performance or build quality. The brand appeals to discerning audiophiles who appreciate American-made tube electronics and sensible pricing relative to performance. Its commitment to local sourcing and manufacturing, combined with a design philosophy rooted in personal conviction rather than market trends, has earned respect among audio enthusiasts and reviewers. Rogue represents the intersection of engineering rigor, tube-amplifier tradition, and practical American manufacturing.
