Seller's Description

PS Audio BHK preamp I’m in the market for a preamp. On my list, and it’s quite a long list, is the PS Audio BHK. I’m not entirely convinced that the BHK is the one for me so preferably I’d like to hear one first compared to my current Benchmark HPA4. I have no doubt they’ll be very different hence want to have a listen first.I’d much prefer black and a later model one.If you have something to offer shoot me a PM. Condition: Excellent Payment Method: Time Left: 2 days and 4 hours Region/State: (VIC) Victoria/Australia By gat474 4 Comments Secure Ad AUD $4,500 Date: April 12Apr 12

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

Ambitious asking price at AUD 4,500 for a used PS Audio BHK Signature preamp—sits above the AUD 3,660–4,180 range from two recent comparable listings (median AUD 3,920). While condition is listed as unknown, this pushes it toward the high end; you'd want a strong discount or proof of mint shape to make it compelling against market comps.

Buyers should verify tube condition first—BHK models are tube-based, and worn stock tubes (like the Russian 6922s) demand replacement costing AUD 500+, affecting sonics immediately. Confirm all accessories: remote, stock power cord, and manual are essential; missing any devalues it further. Probe the seller on hours used and service history to dodge potential output stage issues common after 5+ years.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About PS Audio

PS Audio, a pioneering American hi-fi brand, traces its roots to 1973 when co-founder Paul McGowan launched the company in California alongside Stan Warren. Emerging from the analog golden age, it debuted with a standalone phono preamplifier, reflecting McGowan's early passion for vinyl playback honed through radio station connections and encounters with audio enthusiasts. The brand quickly evolved, embracing digital audio in the 1980s by releasing one of the first high-end CD players, the PS Audio CD-1, soon after Philips and Sony introduced the format.

Today, PS Audio specializes in premium electronics, including power amplifiers, preamplifiers, digital-to-analog converters (DACs), and integrated amplifiers, with a hallmark focus on power conditioning via innovative AC regenerators known as Power Plants. These devices, born from Stan Warren's mid-1980s discovery that oversized transformers enhance audio performance, remain a cornerstone. The lineup also encompasses digital lenses for refining streaming and disc playback, alongside select analog components, though it eschews speakers, headphones, turntables, or cables.

Positioned firmly in the high-end market, PS Audio commands respect among discerning audiophiles for its bold engineering and unwavering pursuit of musical purity. Celebrating 50 years in 2023, it occupies a niche as an innovator rather than a mass-market player, appealing to buyers who prioritize transformative power delivery and digital refinement in sophisticated systems.
