Are you buying it as a working vintage surround receiver or just a cheap way to get an old Philips AV box into a system? At €59, this looks like a fair-to-good ask rather than a steal: the FR740 is a late-’90s, 5.1-ready receiver with 60 W/channel into 6 Ω, Dolby Pro Logic-era surround modes, and a built-in tuner, but it’s also very much a mass-market unit rather than a collectible heavyweight.
What makes it worth a look is the clean, compact layout and the fact that these Philips receivers can be perfectly serviceable for casual movie or garage-system duty if everything works; the model also originally came with a remote. The real upside is if the seller can prove it powers up cleanly, all channels work, and the display/tuner are healthy. At this age, though, missing remote, scratchy controls, or weak output would matter more than usual, so I’d only call it a strong buy if it’s fully tested and complete.
