Restored Technics SE-C01 Power Amplifier 30 capacitors replaced. Bias and zero volts adjusted. Tested for over 40 hours for proper break-in.Restored December 2025****No P.O. boxes or meet ups***When I acquired this amplifier both channels worked but cut out quickly (protection) with minimal volume . I found one 1uf capacitor with ESR over 40 ohms. I also found 1 main power supply 470uf 200 volts with one of its leads corroded/broken. One 220uf 50 volt capacitor had no capacitance and 19.4 ohms of ESR. Once all were replaced the amplifier is again working properly. Please note this amplifier does NOT have a power on/off switch so must be plugged into a preamp or a dedicated power strip. Not sure why but some vintage amplifiers such as Carver did the same thing in the day. As a rule of thumb it is recommended to power on preamp and source and power amps last. Notable mainly because it’s a proper Technics power amp, and the asking price sits right on the median of your recent comp set. At US$250, it looks fair rather than cheap, with enough room to feel sensible if the listing is clean and complete; it is not priced as a bargain, but it is comfortably within the normal market band given the US$200 25th percentile and US$650 75th percentile.
What makes it worth a look is the usual Technics appeal: solid build, straightforward stereo power, and a reputation for reliable, no-nonsense performance in a system that values control and stability over flash. If it’s been well kept, original, and unmodified, that’s the real upside here. At this price, I’d mainly want confirmation of clean operation, no channel imbalance, and no tired switches or relay issues, but nothing about the price itself raises a red flag.
