Commercial Primare CD22 CD Player The CD22 is the successor to and upgrade for the successful and acclaimed CD21 CD player. Every component, from the CD transport to the audio output stage, has been designed to achieve the highest possible audio performance. It incorporates a dedicated CD-transport with a considerable five second buffer memory in order to provide the best jitter suppression and protection from mechanical shock. Operation can be customised by choosing the preferred sample frequency: 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, 96 kHz or 192kHz. Comprehensive outputs include unbalanced RCA analogue, t
Primare’s CD22 is a solid mid-2000s CD player, but A$4,907 is very ambitious for a used one. In the current market, I’d expect a clean working example to land more in the A$800–A$1,500 range, maybe a bit more if it’s mint, boxed, and recently serviced. At this asking price, you’re paying near-new premium money for a player that’s now well into age-sensitive territory.
Before buying, verify the transport reads discs quickly and reliably, with no skipping, tray hesitation, or read errors on CD-Rs as well as pressed discs. Also check whether the remote is included, the display is bright, and any service history is documented; replacement lasers and transport parts on older Primare players can be a headache if they fail.

Primare traces its origins to 1985, when Danish industrial designer and audiophile Bo Christensen, frustrated by the era's cluttered audio gear, founded the company alongside engineer Bent Nielsen. Born in Denmark as Primare Systems AB, it embodied a mission for exceptional sound quality, elegant Scandinavian aesthetics, precise proportions, and intuitive interfaces. Rejecting the industry's short product cycles, Primare pioneered "living products" designed for longevity and evolution, with its debut 928 series—now exhibited in Copenhagen's Designmuseum Denmark—setting a minimalist benchmark against button-heavy contemporaries. A 1993 partnership with Swedish firm Xena, involving Lars Pedersen, propelled the influential 30 series in 1998, cementing its design legacy while shifting manufacturing to southern Sweden.
The brand specializes in high-fidelity separates, excelling in integrated amplifiers, power amplifiers, preamplifiers, CD players, network streamers, and DACs that handle analog, digital, wired, and wireless sources with balanced precision. Iconic lines like the 200, 300, and ongoing 30 and 15 series prioritize simple circuitry and modular upgrades, from tuners and Blu-ray players to modern computer audio solutions, always favoring functionality over gimmicks.
Primare occupies a premium mid-to-high-end niche, revered by discerning buyers for its honest integrity, timeless Scandinavian design, and deeply satisfying performance that endures across decades. Award-winning components, such as the EISA-honored CD32/I32, deliver audiophile purity without ostentation, positioning Primare as a practical choice for those seeking lasting quality over fleeting trends in a market craving authenticity.
