Scan-Speak was founded on February 1, 1970, in Videbæk, Denmark, by Ejvind Skaaning, initially to produce drivers for Scandyna A-25 and Dynaco A-25 loudspeakers after a supply dispute with Seas. Emerging from Skaaning's prior venture QSR and ties to Scandinavian Speaker Company, the firm quickly expanded, developing iconic early products like the D2008 tweeter by 1971-74. Backed financially by Dynaco's David Hafler in 1974, Scan-Speak solidified its Danish roots, with all transducers still hand-built today by a dedicated staff of around 50 at its original facility.

The brand specializes exclusively in high-end transducers—woofers, midranges, and tweeters such as beryllium domes and the acclaimed Illuminator series—rather than complete systems like amplifiers, speakers, or accessories. These drivers power loudspeakers across home audio/video, professional, automotive aftermarket, and aerospace applications, supplied directly to top OEM/ODM brands worldwide and through distributors in over 35 countries.

Scan-Speak commands a premier position in the high-end market as the benchmark for state-of-the-art drivers, earning acclaim for uncompromising quality and innovation, from Kevlar membranes in 1988 to ongoing refinements. Once acquired by Tymphany, it returned to Danish ownership via local investors, reinforcing its reputation among discerning builders and luxury manufacturers who demand the crème de la crème.
