Brand New (never opened) Nagaoka MP-700 for sale. Released to commemorate Nagaoka's 85th anniversary and winner of the EISA Best Cartridge 2025-2026 award, this is the new king of the MP series, surpassing the legendary MP-500. It features a nude micro-ridge diamond and a boron cantilever with a newly designed suspension system that offers the transparency of a high-end Moving Coil (MC) with the convenience and high output (4mV) of an MM input. The body is crafted from ultra-duralumin with a specialized triple-layer anti-static finish for dead-quiet backgrounds. If you want the absolute pinnacle of Nagaoka’s Moving Permalloy ttechnolog.Check my reviews and buy with confidence.
This is a buyer’s market only if the cartridge is mint and genuinely low-hours; otherwise, US$1,629 is ambitious versus typical new and used references for the MP-700. New pricing clusters around US$1,399–US$1,700 in current listings and reviews, while a forum report puts recent street pricing closer to US$640 on the low end and about US$685 at Japanese retail equivalent, so this ask sits near the top of the range unless condition and extras are exceptional.
What makes it worth considering is the usual Nagaoka strength: a refined, detailed but non-fatiguing presentation, with a boron cantilever and micro-ridge stylus that should track cleanly and dig out excellent inner-groove detail. It’s a serious moving-permalloy design, so if the stylus is pristine, the cantilever is straight, and the original box/accessories are included, there’s real value here for a careful vinyl system. Because the price is already above the comfortable used zone, I’d want clear proof of low wear and no suspension or stylus damage before paying up.

Nagaoka, a Japanese precision manufacturer, traces its roots to 1940 when it began producing components for mechanical watches and clocks in Higashine, north of Tokyo. By 1947, the company had pivoted to turntable needles, leveraging its micro-fabrication expertise to specialize in analog audio technology. This heritage of high-precision engineering has positioned Nagaoka as a cornerstone of the global vinyl industry, supplying over 90% of the world's phono cartridge styli from its single factory.
The brand focuses exclusively on phono cartridges and replacement styli, with no diversification into amplifiers, speakers, turntables, DACs, headphones, or cables. Its flagship Moving Permalloy (MP) series, including entry-level models like the MP-110 and high-end options such as the MP-500, emphasizes in-house production of every component—from samarium cobalt magnets and diamond tips to coils and cantilevers. Complementary JT-series moving magnet designs and vinyl accessories round out a tightly curated lineup for analog playback.
Nagaoka holds a niche yet dominant market position as a mid-tier specialist revered by vinyl enthusiasts and professionals for its balanced sound, durability, and value. While not a household name among casual listeners, its technology powers many leading cartridge brands, earning "masterpiece" status for models like the legendary MP-110. This blend of reliability, precision, and performance makes it essential for discerning hi-fi buyers seeking authentic analog reproduction.
