At €250, this looks solid rather than cheap: it’s above some lower local asks, but still in the same broad band as recent used examples, especially for a cartridge that’s been refreshed or carefully kept. Against a typical used spread around roughly €150-€300 depending on stylus and provenance, this sits close enough to the middle to feel fair, not ambitious.
That’s the appeal here: the ESG 796 is one of ELAC’s more respected MM designs, with a lively, detailed presentation and strong tracking when the stylus is healthy. If the excellent condition includes a known-good original or quality replacement stylus, plus box and mounting hardware, it’s an easy listen-first cartridge with genuine upside. The only real caveat is stylus uncertainty, since that’s where value lives on these vintage bodies.
