Onkyo’s TX-NR838 sits in the sweet spot of the older high-end AVR range: a serious, full-featured receiver from when Onkyo was still packing in plenty of amplification and connectivity. At €240, this asking price is above your market median of €151 and also above the €251 75th percentile? No — it’s just under that upper quartile, so I’d call it ambitious but not outlandish rather than a bargain.
The upside is the condition/package: excellent, with remote and original box, which is exactly what you want on a used receiver this complex. For a buyer who wants a strong multichannel hub for movies, TV, and legacy inputs, this is a well-regarded model with real utility; the box and accessories help resale and reduce hassle. I’d still want proof it powers up cleanly, switches inputs properly, and hasn’t got HDMI or network issues, but at this level of completeness it’s a credible buy if you value the package.
