Seller's Description

Sonus Faber Electa Amator Bookshelf Loudspeakers This is an excellent condition, one owner (before me) pair of Electa Amator speakers - the speaker that put SF on the map and with a huge following among audiophiles. Rarely offered for sale now as most current owners will not part with them. These are in excellent condition with only minor marks on the cabinets and stands and totally blemish free drivers. I am selling only because they don't suit my current amplifier which is an OTL type that works only into a minimum of 15 ohms. Both the speakers and the stands are surprisingly heavy so these

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

The Sonus Faber Electa Amator III standmounts enjoy a cult following for their warm, musical midrange and exquisite Italian cabinetry, punching above their weight in the brand's heritage lineup. At AUD$5,200 for unknown condition, this is a screaming bargain—recent comparable AUD listings show a median of AUD$10,674, with the 25th percentile at AUD$9,929 and 75th at AUD$11,439. Even accounting for condition unknowns, it's well under market, worth a hard look if the photos check out.

Before biting, verify the drivers for foam surround decay (common on these 15+ year-old units) and test for cabinet resonances or crossover issues—play demanding tracks like Steely Dan to expose any harshness. Confirm original stands, grilles, and serial-matched pair are included; missing accessories tank resale value.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About Sonus faber

Sonus faber was founded in 1983 by Franco Serblin in Vicenza, Italy, emerging from a singular vision to create loudspeakers of superior musical quality using natural materials and refined design. The company's name, Latin for "handcrafted sound," encapsulates its foundational philosophy. Serblin's early work—including the iconic Snail prototype inspired by Leonardo da Vinci's sketches—established the brand's commitment to marrying acoustic performance with sculptural aesthetics. The company's Italian heritage remains central to its identity, with production continuing in Vicenza for over four decades.

Sonus faber specializes exclusively in loudspeakers, a focused approach that has defined its market position. The brand is renowned for handcrafted wooden cabinets, violin-inspired industrial design, and signature model lines including the Guarneri Homage, Amati, Stradivari, and Aida. Early designs featured Kevlar woofers and silk-dome tweeters, though solid-wood construction became the defining material signature. Each speaker is treated as a musical instrument rather than mere audio equipment, reflecting the company's artisanal manufacturing ethos.

Sonus faber occupies the premium high-end segment of the audio market, commanding respect among discerning audiophiles and collectors worldwide. The brand's reputation rests on uncompromising craftsmanship, luxury materials, and the integration of traditional Italian design principles with contemporary audio technology. Its positioning appeals to listeners who view speakers as both functional components and interior design statements—a niche that has sustained the company's prestige and premium pricing across its four-decade history.
