This has got to be the best selling amp of all time! Back in the 70’s, when I was in high school, myself and all my friends had either this amp, or a 1030, blasting Boston and Aerosmith though our JBL L26 or L36 speakers!!! Great times!!This amp lacked for nothing…very musical, with headroom enabling the 1060 to sound much more powerful than its 30 watts per channel might suggest. Warm phono stage, and plenty of additional inputs including tuner, auxiliary, and tape made it darn near impossible to grow out of! This particular amp has been fully tested, (this one of three that I own), and performed very well. I cleaned all the pots and switches with Deoxit, cleaned the boards and inspected for any issues, and in case you’re wondering why the power button sticks out a bit more than normal, it’s because the power switch went bad , (very common issue with Marantz), and I replaced it. Cosmetically, the balance knob has a couple of scratches, as does the top left corner of the faceplate. The chassis does show some staining, and the finish on the transformer has bubbled. The cover has some overspray paint, and a faint scratch in the back/middle. Not a 10/10, but still a beautiful example!!!As mentioned, I did test the amp, but because it appears all original, I guarantee that it will not arrive DOA. It will be professionally packed, and shipped via FedEx, insured for the full purchase price.
At US$430, this is basically at the market’s center—right on top of the US$429 median and comfortably within the US$421–US$502 typical used range, so it reads as a fair buy rather than a steal or a stretch.
The 1060 is well liked for its sweet, musical midrange and surprisingly engaging phono stage, which is why it still has a loyal following. For a clean, working example, the value is in getting a classic Marantz integrated that’s genuinely enjoyable with efficient speakers and vinyl. At this price, I’d mainly want assurance it’s been serviced or at least operates quietly, because age-related pots, switches, and capacitors are the usual watchpoints on these.
