This turntable is a few models old - manufactured in the 2010s, but has been upgraded with a brand new RB100 tonearm that can be equipped with the cartridge of your choice. The dustcover has some noticeable blemishing due to wear, but is overall in good condition. The rest of the turntable has been service, main platter bearing has been cleaned and lubricated, new belt, and main motor bearing has been lubricated. Timing matters here because this is an older first-gen Rega P1, long superseded by the Planar 1/Planar 1 Plus, and that keeps used pricing honest. At US$449, this is well above what I’d expect for a used P1; unless it’s coming with a serious cartridge upgrade, fresh service, and near-mint cosmetics, it reads as ambitious rather than a fair buy.
What still makes a P1 worth owning is the classic Rega appeal: simple setup, good speed stability, and a lively, musical presentation that’s easy to live with. If the condition is genuinely excellent and it includes the dust cover, original supply, and a decent cartridge, it can still be a very satisfying starter deck. But at this number, you’d want strong proof of condition and extras before jumping—otherwise you’re in new-turntable money.
