Naim Audio NAC 32 Pre Amplifier My first item offered is the Naim Audio NAC32 Pre-AmplifierThe NAC 32 has been used in my system on and off, including quite recently while my NAC52 was being upgraded. It's performance is excellent, exhibiting the famous Naim musicality, fast transient response, and seemingly unlimited power reservoir. The pre-amplifier has inbuilt MM and MC phono inputs.Note: It was modified by an authorised Naim Dealer/Technician for 2-rail power operation, bringing it up to NAC 32.5 performance;Over a longish period, I have upgraded my system to Linn LP12/Tri-amped Gale GS401

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

The Naim NAC 32, a vintage '70s preamp from the early black phase, has seen used values plummet in Australia amid recent distributor pricing shakeups—second-hand Naim gear is down sharply post-discounting bloodbath. With no condition details provided for this AUD950 asking price, it's tough to benchmark precisely, but excellent examples typically trade in the AUD800-1500 range locally, making this potentially fair if truly solid, or a pass if worn.

Buyers must verify the input selector switch and volume pot, as these are notorious failure points prone to crackle and dirt buildup after decades—insist on clean operation and service history. Confirm MM/MC phono stages work fully, check for original RCAs and lid, and test with your arm for hum or channel imbalance; no box or manual is a red flag on such a collector piece.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About Naim Audio

Naim Audio, a cornerstone of British hi-fi excellence, traces its origins to 1973 when Julian Vereker, a self-taught engineer, racing driver, and music enthusiast, formally incorporated the company in Salisbury, Wiltshire. Vereker's journey began earlier, in 1969, experimenting with tape recording and sound-to-light boxes before designing his first power amplifier in 1971. Amid the British hi-fi industry's recession, he secured a pivotal contract with Capital Radio, blending entrepreneurial grit with a passion for authentic sound reproduction that challenged conventional wisdom.

The brand specializes in premium integrated amplifiers, power amplifiers, preamplifiers, digital streamers, DACs, and compact music systems, often featuring built-in amplification for streamlined setups. While not delving into speakers—beyond a historical foray—or headphones and turntables, Naim emphasizes modular, upgradable components that prioritize pace, rhythm, and timing (PRaT), a signature sonic philosophy rooted in the "source first" approach alongside contemporaries like Linn.

Naim holds a commanding position in the high-end market, revered by discerning audiophiles for its handmade, innovative systems that deliver emotional musical engagement over mere specifications. Now part of VerVent Audio Group following a 2011 merger with Focal, it exports to over 45 countries, sustaining a cult following for resilient, influential designs that transcend economic cycles.
