The amp externally is in excellent condition. It has a problem though with the volume knob, as it passes the quarter to the hour position there is a loud static (?) click in the speakers but this does not occur at any other point on the volume knob. It is apparently a well known problem caused by dust or minor corrosion in the potentiometer. There are fixes for this to be found online if you are willing to get inside the amp. It comes with the original remote and manual plus the box.
At £175, this looks like a strong deal versus the typical used market: it’s well below the £285 25th percentile and far under the £395 median, so the asking price leaves real room for value. For a Musical Fidelity CD player, that’s the sweet spot where you’re paying used money without drifting into “why bother” territory.
The A3.5 is well regarded for a clean, full-bodied presentation and a properly competent transport/DAC section, so it can still be a very satisfying spinner in a good system. At this price, the main upside is simply getting a respected Musical Fidelity source component cheaply; just make sure it reads discs reliably, the tray is smooth, and remote/control functions are present if you’ll use them.
