Seller's Description

ME Sound (Australia) 25 Pre Amplifier Price reduced to $1250. Unable to edit inside advert itself.    Dismantling my current system to allow for something new.    Bought direct from Trevor Wilson at Rage audio approximately 3 years ago when moving states and been paired beautifully with the ME850 since then with minimal use. Unfortunately, life has been a whirlwind after moving states and most gear is sitting packed up and unused which is not the life they deserve.  Condition: Very Good Payment Method: EFT, Cash on Pickup Region/State: (QLD) Queensland/Australia By Schmerly 1 Comments   AUD $8

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

This is a strong deal. At A$800, it sits well below the A$1,601 25th percentile and far under the A$1,730 median of recent comparable AUD listings, so it’s priced like a bargain rather than a fair ask. For a ME Sound preamp, that’s enough spread to leave room for servicing, cables, or even a phono stage upgrade and still stay ahead of the market.

The upside here is straightforward: ME preamps are typically valued for clean, transparent line-stage performance and solid build quality, so if this one is healthy it should be a very satisfying, low-drama piece in a serious system. The main thing to check is purely practical—confirm inputs/outputs, volume tracking, selector operation, and whether it includes the PSU/remote if relevant, since missing bits matter more than cosmetics on older analogue gear.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About ME Sound

ME Sound emerged from Australia in 1976, founded by Peter Stein, an engineer passionate about high-fidelity amplification. Stein established the brand in the vibrant local hi-fi scene, crafting components that prioritized power and precision during the golden era of analog audio. Though Stein passed away in 2022, his legacy endures through a dedicated following that values the brand's roots in hands-on Australian manufacturing.

The company specialized in high-current power amplifiers, with iconic models like the ME850, ME1400, and ME1500 standing out for their robust delivery and dynamic headroom. These were often paired with preamplifiers in complete systems, appealing to enthusiasts seeking uncolored, authoritative sound. ME Sound focused narrowly on amplification rather than diversifying into speakers, DACs, or headphones, emphasizing solid-state designs built for longevity.

Positioned as a niche boutique in the vintage hi-fi market, ME Sound commands respect among collectors for its mid-tier pricing and superior second-hand value. The original run ceased around 2003 amid liquidation, sparking rumors of revival, though no verified new production has materialized. Today, it thrives in the used arena, where well-preserved units rival contemporaries for sheer drive and musicality.
