Krell KAV-400xi integrated amplifier in working condition. This is a highly regarded high-current Krell integrated amp, rated at approximately 200 watts per channel into 8 ohms, with the power and control Krell is known for.The amplifier has been tested and is working. The unit powers on, plays audio, and the remote control works. Inputs/channels can be selected using the remote. Channels both sound clean through a pair of polk floor speakers.Important condition notes: Two of the front-panel channel/input (B1 and S1) selector buttons only work intermittently. They sometimes respond and sometimes do not. However, the inputs can still be selected using the included remote control. It might just need the switches cleaned but not certain.I have not tested the XLR balanced inputs or preamp, as I do not currently have any XLR source and other equipment to test them with. The other tested functions are working as described. The unit is used and shows normal signs of wear from age and handling. Please review all photos carefully for cosmetic condition. This is being sold as a used vintage/high-end audio component with the above issues disclosed.Local pickup is preferred in the bay area but shipping at cost can be arranged (shipping with insurance value).
This is a fair-to-good ask: at US$1,100, it sits below the US$1,225 25th percentile and well under the US$1,349 median of your recent comps, so it reads as a solid value rather than an ambitious ask. For a Krell integrated, that’s meaningful—buyers are paying for serious current capability at a price that leaves room for any service or setup costs.
The KAV-400xi has a strong reputation for muscular drive, grip, and scale, with enough refinement to suit revealing systems while still sounding authoritative with real-world speakers. If it’s been well cared for, this is the kind of amp that can be a long-term keeper; at this price, the main buyer focus is simply confirming clean operation, quiet channels, and that any remote, packaging, or original extras are included.

Krell Industries, founded in 1980 in the United States by Dan D'Agostino and his wife Rondi, emerged from a passion for pushing audio engineering boundaries. Based initially in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and later settling in nearby Orange, the brand drew its name from the advanced alien race in the 1956 film Forbidden Planet, symbolizing limitless technological power. The company's debut at the 1981 Consumer Electronics Show with the KSA-100, a high-power Class A amplifier, sparked immediate demand and established Krell as a force in American hi-fi innovation.
Krell specializes in high-end amplification, with its power amplifiers—epitomized by flagships like the Master Reference Amplifier—earning legendary status for their raw dynamics and precision. The lineup extends to preamplifiers, surround sound processors, digital-to-analog converters, CD and Super Audio CD players, loudspeakers, and subwoofers, all engineered for uncompromised performance in music and home theater systems.
Positioned firmly at the pinnacle of the high-end audio market, Krell commands respect among discerning audiophiles for its cutting-edge circuitry, massive power supplies, and relentless pursuit of sonic excellence. A top-tier brand alongside legends like Levinson and Threshold, it appeals to buyers seeking reference-level gear that defines the genre, even amid recent ownership transitions following Rondi's passing in 2024.
