Seller's Description

Commercial Rega Couple 3 (1 Meter) Interconnect Cables (RCA) The Rega Couple 3 is designed to complement the performance of any hi-fi audio system.   The low capacitance cable used for the Couple 3 is constructed using oxygen free copper (OFC) with an ultra-flexible jacket. This cable was originally developed as a critical component used inside our award-winning reference level Aura phono stage. The 80pF capacitance of this cable is matched to our custom tonearm cables used throughout the Rega range. This feature will optimise performance when used between phono stage and amplifier.   Terminat

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

The Rega Couple 3 is a well-regarded interconnect cable, not a phono stage, so the listing title is misleading and the price of A$295 is hard to benchmark without clarification. Used high-quality interconnects like this typically range from A$80 to A$150, making A$295 significantly above the 75th percentile and likely a poor deal if it is indeed just the cable. If the seller mistakenly labeled a phono stage as a "Couple 3," the price could be fair for a mid-tier unit, but buyers must verify the actual product before proceeding.

Assuming this is truly the Rega Couple 3 interconnect, its low capacitance and hand-assembled construction make it excellent for preserving signal integrity in hi-fi systems, but it offers no upside at A$295 compared to typical used values. The only meaningful reason to buy would be if it includes rare original packaging or is from an original owner, yet even then, the price remains ambitious. Unless the listing actually describes a phono stage by mistake, this is not a worthwhile buy at the stated price.

About Rega

Rega Research, founded in 1973 in Essex, England, by Roy Gandy and Tony Relph, emerged from Gandy's lifelong passion for vinyl playback. A Ford engineer and music enthusiast, Gandy built his first turntable, the Planet, in his spare time, blending the founders' surnames to create the Rega name. From humble beginnings in a derelict mill, the company quickly gained traction with early models like the Planar 2 and Planar 3, establishing its heritage as a British hi-fi pioneer dedicated to precision engineering and hand-assembly.

Rega specializes in turntables and tonearms, its cornerstone products, but has expanded into a full ecosystem including cartridges, integrated amplifiers like the Elicit and Brio, phono stages such as the Fono, and speakers like the Ela series. While early efforts included loudspeakers and electronics from the 1980s onward, the brand prioritizes vinyl-centric components over headphones, DACs, or cables, all designed in-house for musical fidelity using specialist materials and tight tolerances.

Rega holds a revered position in the high-end hi-fi market as a niche boutique icon, prized by audiophiles for affordable, lifetime-quality performance that emphasizes music over gimmicks. Globally exported to over 50 countries from its Essex facility employing more than 150, it remains a symbol of British ingenuity, with turntables like the Planar series securing enduring loyalty among vinyl revivalists.
