Overview

A truly endgame projector upgrade.

madVR's Envy Extreme offers reference grade control over image quality through advanced, real-time analysis. Their proprietary Dynamic Tone Mapping 2.0, a patent-pending system analyses every frame in real time. This enables precise highlight recovery, contrast recovery, and shadow detail restoration, providing reference level HDR performance.

Say goodbye to black bars with instantly adjusted aspect ratios, even when aspect ratios change during the movie. Combined with madVR's patent-pending non-linear stretch "NLS+" that provides both simultaneous vertical compression and horizontal expansion.

With HDMI 2.1 support, the Envy Extreme is capable of full 48Gbps bandwidth with HDCP 2.3 compliance, and supports output resolutions up to 8K. Leveraging advanced AI-driven upscaling, it can intelligently scale content up to 8K resolution.

Exclusively available to the Extreme model, MotionAI is a user controllable AI-based motion interpolation system, that enhances motion clarity and stability, while preserving the director’s original intent.

Dynamic Subtitle Overlay intelligently repositions subtitles without sacrificing screen real estate.

Precision calibration is a must, with support for massive 256-point 3D LUTs and 4,096-point 1D LUTs, delivering up to 16.7 million points of accuracy. Integration with professional calibration platforms such as ColourSpace and Calman allows for uncompromising image accuracy.

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

MadVR Envy Extreme Mk1 is one of those rare boxes that only makes sense if you actually need what it does, and this asking price looks good against your recent AUD comps. At A$13,700, it sits below the A$14,282 25th percentile and well under the A$14,865 median, so this reads as a strong deal rather than a stretch.

The appeal is the same as ever: class-leading video processing, especially for projection setups where tone mapping, scaling, and source cleanup can be the difference between “nice” and “wow.” With the power cable included and no obvious red flags from the listing, this is the kind of buy that makes sense if you’ve been waiting for a used Envy without paying top-of-market. If condition is genuinely clean, I’d move quickly.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About MadVR

MadVR Labs emerged around 2021 from the legacy of the renowned madVR software, a GPU-accelerated DirectShow video renderer celebrated by enthusiasts for its superior HDR tone mapping, scaling, and image quality enhancements. Co-founded by Richard Latovsky, the company's CEO, it originated in the home theater innovation scene, evolving from software roots into premium hardware to deliver uncompromising video performance for dedicated setups.

The brand specializes exclusively in high-end video processors, with its flagship Envy series— including Core, Pro, and Extreme MK2 models—excelling in demanding tasks like AI-based motion interpolation, dynamic tone mapping, aspect ratio control, and professional calibration. These devices target custom home theaters, bypassing traditional audio categories such as amplifiers, speakers, or DACs to focus purely on elevating visual fidelity.

Positioned as a niche boutique leader in the ultra-premium video processing market, madVR commands reverence among critical cinephiles and custom installers for pushing technological boundaries unimaginable just years prior. Its products represent the pinnacle for those prioritizing reference-level picture quality over mass-market convenience, earning awards and a cult following in elite home cinema circles.
