WiiM emerged as a sub-brand of Linkplay Technology, a company founded in 2014 by a team of engineers from leading firms like Google, Broadcom, Harman, and InterVideo. Headquartered in the US with roots in China and manufacturing there, Linkplay initially specialized in voice control systems, smart home tech, and streaming solutions for partners including Yamaha, Marshall, and Edifier. In late 2021, it launched WiiM to deliver its own affordable, high-quality audio streaming devices, drawing on years of OEM expertise to bridge digital music access with modern hi-fi setups.
The brand focuses on compact streaming hardware, including the debut WiiM Mini, followed by Pro, Pro Plus, and the versatile WiiM Amp—a Class D integrated amplifier delivering 60W into 8 ohms or 120W into 4, with built-in streaming, analog/digital outputs, Bluetooth, AirPlay 2, Chromecast, and multiroom capabilities. Recent additions like the Ultra pre-amp and wake-up light expand into touchscreen-equipped pre-amps and wireless solutions, emphasizing app-controlled voice integration over traditional categories like speakers, turntables, DACs, or headphones.
WiiM holds a strong mid-tier position in the streaming audio market, prized by savvy buyers for punching above its budget price with feature-rich, software-updatable devices that rival pricier competitors. Its reputation for accessible hi-fi innovation—clear sound, seamless multiroom setups, and global service integration—has made it a rapid riser among knowledgeable enthusiasts seeking value-driven upgrades without high-end premiums.
