Overview

The TacT Millennium Digital Amplifier Mk2 is a radical departure from conventional analogue amplifiers, employing a fully digital signal path right up to the final power conversion stage. The design does not offer any analogue inputs.

Millennium converts incoming PCM audio into a high-frequency switching waveform. Because the output stage operates as a digital switching system, it avoids many of the  limitations associated with conventional linear amplifiers. The Mk2 version offers improved digital processing and power delivery.

Both a high-performance digital processor and a powerful integrated amplifier.

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

TacT’s Millennium Digital Amplifier sits in the sort of cult-audiophile tier that still gets attention for its digital amplification approach and serious sonic ambitions. At A$3,000, this asking price is ambitious versus your recent AUD comps: it’s well above the A$1,730 75th percentile and far over the A$1,101 median, so it’s not a casual buy.

That said, for a clean, fully working example, the upside is real: these are unusual, high-end pieces with a reputation for speed, control, and a very “finished” presentation when the system and speaker match are right. If it’s original-owner, complete, and freshly checked over, the right buyer may still pay up for rarity and condition—but without standout provenance or accessories, the price needs to be justified by exceptional presentation and proof it’s healthy.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About TACT Audio

TACT Audio emerged in the late 1990s as a pioneering force in digital amplification, debuting the Millennium at the 1997 Stereophile Show as the world's first true digital amplifier using pure Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) technology. This Danish innovator quickly gained attention for bridging digital signal processing directly to loudspeakers, minimizing analog conversion losses. While a separate Chinese entity, TACT Pro Audio, launched in 2013 focusing on professional speakers and systems, the hi-fi brand's heritage centers on its early breakthroughs in high-resolution audio electronics.

The brand specializes in cutting-edge digital amplifiers like the renowned Millennium series, including models such as the 2150 and 216, alongside stereo digital preamplifiers like the 2.2x with dynamic room correction supporting up to 96kHz/24-bit PCM. Their lineup emphasizes PWM amplification and innovative DSP for precise sound reproduction, targeting audiophiles seeking digital purity over traditional analog designs. Speakers and related pro audio gear appear in later iterations, but TACT's core strength lies in amplification and correction tech.

Positioned as a niche high-end boutique in the hi-fi market, TACT commands respect among knowledgeable buyers for its trailblazing digital innovations, though its visibility has waned amid service complaints and apparent dormancy. Collectors and digital amp enthusiasts prize vintage Millennium units, while the brand's forward-thinking approach continues to influence modern Class D designs.
