Audio-Technica KT300 Phono Cartridge (MC) Near new Audio Technica KT300 LOMC cartridge. If you are wondering what this is, you are not alone. This is the Japan domestic version of the Signet MK 111e (Signet was the luxury export brand Audio Technica used in the 70s and 80s). I bought this cartridge about 10 years ago, ordered from Japan, and put a mere 20 hours on it - so it is not even broken in. For an older cartridge like this, timing matters less than condition and hours used, because there isn’t really a “newer replacement” that makes an intact example obsolete. At A$350, it’s above the A$246 median and just under the A$527 75th percentile, so this reads as a bit ambitious rather than outrageous.
That said, Audio-Technica moving-coil cartridges are often well-liked for clean tracking, good detail, and lively presentation, so a healthy sample can still be very worthwhile. The real value is in low wear, a known stylus history, and whether it’s being sold with the original box, mounting hardware, or confirmation it’s been tested. If those boxes are ticked, it can still make sense; if not, I’d want more reassurance before paying this much.
