About This Model
The Heybrook HB1 is a 2-way sealed bookshelf loudspeaker built around an 8-inch woofer and a 1-inch soft dome tweeter, crossed over at 4 kHz. It presents a nominal impedance of 8 ohms and a sensitivity of around 89–90 dB (1W/1m), making it an easy load for a wide range of amplifiers. Frequency response extends down to approximately 42 Hz, which is notable for a compact sealed design. The HB1 is well regarded in British hi-fi circles for a natural, dynamic and musically engaging presentation, though it can lean slightly bright depending on partnering equipment. Power handling sits between 15 and 75 watts.

A great opportunity to own a Heybrook HB1 at this price point.

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

This looks like a fair ask, not a bargain or an overreach. For a clean pair of Heybrook HB1s, US$205 sits in the sensible used range; comparable Heybrook used listings show older models trading in the low hundreds of USD, with condition and completeness doing most of the pricing work.

The HB1 has a strong reputation as a lively, musical British bookshelf speaker with good timing and an easy, engaging midrange, so it remains appealing if you want vintage character without a huge outlay. At this price, the key value check is condition: confirm the drivers are original or properly repaired, the cabinets are sound, and the pair is matched; if those boxes are ticked, this is a worthwhile buy for someone who likes classic Heybrook sound.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About Heybrook

Heybrook is a British hi-fi brand that emerged in 1978, founded by Peter J. Comeau and Stuart Mee and originally based near Plymouth in Wembury, Devon. It began production in 1979, taking its name from Heybrook Bay, and later operated as Heybrook Hi-Fi Limited before being taken over by Audio Group International; the original company was dissolved in 2000.

In its classic era, Heybrook was best known for a compact but well-regarded range of loudspeakers, plus a turntable and tonearm. The first product was the HB2 loudspeaker, followed by the HB1 and HB3, the TT2 turntable, and the Heybrook tonearm by the early 1980s. More recently, the revived brand has returned with the HB1 Evolution speaker, reinforcing that loudspeakers remain its core focus.

In market terms, Heybrook sits more in the vintage and specialist-boutique lane than in mainstream mass-market hi-fi. Its reputation is built on classic British bookshelf speakers and a nostalgic appeal among collectors and enthusiasts, rather than on a broad catalogue of amplifiers, DACs, headphones, or cables. The brand’s modern revival keeps that heritage-led identity intact, aiming at buyers who value lineage, compact speaker design, and a distinctly old-school British hi-fi story.
