Seller's Description

Jensen JTA-980 3-Speed Stereo Turntable 2 CD Music System w/ Cassette & RadioSystem appears to be brand new, but has been partially unboxed from its original manufacturer packaging by the previous owner. Overall the unit shows no signs of age related wear, other than the single speaker that is unwrapped and has a couple of small marks that can be seen along the edges of the wood cabinet. The styrofoam inserts that originally held all pieces in place within the box are missing, and the remote control has also been unpackaged, but the turntable itself still has tape holding down the platter in a manner that would only be seen from the manufacturer. Overall the system is in great shape, but the box it came in does somewhat show its age. This set was pulled from a temperature-controlled storage unit, and is ready to be finally set-up and used in its new home. Our Thoughts RADAR AI

Compared with a new budget integrated, US$199 for this is only fair if it’s truly complete and working; for a used all-in-one component like this, I’d want to be closer to US$150 for an easy buy. The catch is that the JTA-980 is a music system rather than a purist hi-fi integrated amp, so the value depends heavily on condition and whether all the transport functions still behave properly.

What makes it attractive is convenience: turntable, CD, cassette, and CD-recording in one box, which is handy for casual vinyl or archiving duties. It’s a neat low-fuss setup if you want a single unit for mixed-format listening, but at US$199 I’d only bite if the stylus, drawer, cassette, and recording functions are confirmed healthy and the unit is cleanly stored.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About Jensen

Jensen traces its origins to 1915, when Danish-born inventor Peter L. Jensen, alongside Edwin Pridham, pioneered the world's first practical loudspeaker, dubbing it the Magnavox. In 1927, Jensen founded the Jensen Radio Manufacturing Company in Chicago, initially producing speakers for radios, military applications, and public address systems. The brand quickly dominated, supplying OEM components to 60% of U.S. independent radio makers within two years, and evolved through entities like Jensen Industries into a cornerstone of post-war audio innovation.

Historically renowned for loudspeakers—ranging from coaxial designs in the 1940s to triaxial models and raw drivers—the brand powered iconic guitar amplifiers from Fender and Gibson during the 1950s and 1960s. Production of original hi-fi speakers ceased in the late 1960s, but the name endures through licensed reissues by SICA in Italy since the 1990s, including modern Jet Series for guitars, alongside contemporary mobile audio like car receivers, amplifiers, and multimedia systems under Namsung America.

Today, Jensen occupies a mid-tier consumer position, blending vintage heritage with accessible mobile and automotive electronics rather than high-end hi-fi. Its reputation rests on pioneering tone and reliability, appealing to nostalgic collectors, guitar enthusiasts, and everyday drivers seeking value-driven performance over boutique exclusivity.
