Seller's Description

ATC HTS40 Bookshelf Loudspeakers For sale, my ATC HTS40 speakers. Primarily a wall mount, but I used them on stands. These make for a wonderful two channel option in a relatively discreet size (especially when wall mounted) or of course as AV speakers in conjunction with other ATC speakers. These were purchased recently from a Sydney dealer as NOS. The speakers are in Excellent condition. With very few hours of use, the white grilles are in good condition, with one having a slight bow in the frame from being left in the box for an extended period. One of the storage cartons has a depression in

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

At A$3,000, this sits well below the A$3,861 25th percentile of your recent comps and far under the A$5,251 median, so it reads as a strong buy rather than just fair value. Against the local used market, that’s a genuine bargain for a pair of ATCs in excellent condition.

What makes it appealing is the usual ATC formula: tight, unforced midrange, very even tonality, and proper scale for a bookshelf speaker, with the kind of resolution that keeps them in serious-system territory rather than “nice for the money.” If the drivers are original, the cabinets are clean, and the sale includes grills/stands or any box/docs, the upside is especially good; at this price, I’d mainly just confirm cosmetic condition and driver health.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About ATC

ATC (Acoustic Transducer Company), a British engineering powerhouse, was founded in 1974 by innovative loudspeaker designer Billy Woodman. Initially focused on crafting custom drive units for the professional audio sector, the company quickly gained acclaim with its 12-inch PA75-314 driver, renowned for superior power handling and minimal distortion at high sound pressure levels. In 1976, ATC introduced the groundbreaking SM75-150 soft dome midrange driver, revolutionizing dispersion, bandwidth, and clarity in studio monitors.

The brand specializes in high-precision loudspeakers, designing and manufacturing its own drivers—including tweeters, midrange, and bass units—in-house for both professional and home applications. Its SCM series offers a spectrum from compact models like the SCM7 to larger formats, available in active and passive configurations. ATC also produces standalone electronics, such as preamplifiers, power amplifiers, and integrated amps like the SIA2-150, all built to uncompromising standards of accuracy and reliability.

ATC commands a elite position in the high-end hi-fi market, revered by recording studios worldwide for its transparent, detail-revealing monitors and by discerning audiophiles for domestic speakers that deliver reference-grade performance. A professional ethos, advanced materials, and innovations like the Super Linear Driver—slashing distortion in the vocal range—cement its status as a boutique leader, where precision engineering trumps mass production.
