Seller's Description

Whilst we do get the opportunity to buy Bose 901 speakers fairly regularly we never see them like this. From the original owner it is apparent that these are in a class of their own and so lovingly looked after. They come with the equaliser, stands, manual and even the original sales brochure. In excellent condition and fully tested these speakers are in excellent condition. All driver surrounds are in amazing shape and they sound the best i have heard a set of 901's sound.

If your after the best example of this classic and much loved speaker then these represent a truly rare find. Simply the best we have seen in 20 years of buying and selling used Bose.

We did not get original packaging for these so Pick Up from Murarrie would be essential, call ahead and we can arrange to have them set up for an audtion. NO free shipping would be provided and being 100% clear these would be very risky to try and pack and ship.

The Bose 901 Series V Loudspeakers are a legendary pair of high-fidelity speakers designed to deliver a uniquely immersive listening experience, built around Bose’s Direct/Reflecting® philosophy. Rather than relying solely on direct sound, these speakers strategically blend direct and reflected audio to recreate the spaciousness and depth of a live performance, filling the room with rich, natural sound.

At the heart of the design are nine full-range drivers per cabinet, working together to minimize distortion while maximizing clarity across a wide soundstage. This unusual configuration helps the 901 Series V produce a smooth, room-filling presence that remains consistent even as you move around the space—ideal for listeners who want music to feel alive rather than confined to a “sweet spot.”

The cabinets feature a sleek, minimalist aesthetic typical of Bose engineering in this era, with an emphasis on acoustics over visual flash. They are intended to be used with an active equalizer, which is essential for unlocking their full frequency response and ensuring balanced output across lows, mids, and highs.

Known for their bold, immersive character, the Bose 901 Series V are especially admired for genres like jazz, classical, and live recordings, where spatial realism matters most. Even decades after their release, they remain a cult favorite among audiophiles who value expansive sound staging and a distinctly “concert hall” listening feel.

Please note: Collection from our Murarrie showroom or freight at buyer's expense. We do not offer free shipping on traded equipment.

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

Unknown condition makes this hard to justify at A$3,000: against your comparable AUD market, that’s well above the A$1,189 75th percentile and far beyond the A$1,068 median, so it reads ambitious rather than fair. Even allowing for strong examples, this is priced at a level that should only make sense if the set is exceptionally complete, freshly serviced, and comes with the right EQ and other key extras.

The appeal of the 901 is the big, room-filling, very “Bose” presentation that can be a lot of fun when it’s set up properly, and the system’s value depends heavily on condition and completeness. At this price, I’d want confirmed originality, intact foam/surrounds, and the correct equalizer included; without that, the buy quickly becomes less attractive.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About Bose

Bose Corporation traces its roots to 1964, when MIT professor Amar Gopal Bose founded the company in Natick, Massachusetts, after growing disillusioned with the poor performance of a high-end stereo system he purchased as a graduate student. Driven by a passion for replicating the immersive qualities of live music through rigorous acoustic research, Bose launched the venture with initial contracts for the U.S. military and NASA, emphasizing innovative speaker designs that prioritized indirect, reverberant sound over direct radiation. This American heritage, rooted in psychoacoustics and engineering excellence, has defined the brand's pursuit of "Better Sound Through Research."

Bose excels in consumer and professional audio categories, renowned for its home audio systems, premium speakers like the iconic 901 Series, and pioneering noise-canceling headphones first prototyped in the 1980s for pilots. The lineup extends to vehicle sound systems, portable Bluetooth speakers, and professional installations, but steers clear of niche hi-fi components such as amplifiers, turntables, DACs, or cables, focusing instead on integrated, user-friendly solutions that blend advanced signal processing with spatial audio reproduction.

Positioned as a premium mid-tier powerhouse in the global market, Bose commands widespread appeal among discerning buyers seeking accessible high-performance audio without audiophile esoterica. Its reputation for innovation and reliability has built a loyal following, though purists occasionally critique its measured sound signature, cementing Bose as a dominant force in mainstream hi-fi rather than high-end boutique or vintage realms.
