Seller's Description

Cambridge Audio Stream Magic 6 v2 Streamer (Music) For sale is the very well-known Cambridge Audio Stream Magic 6 (v2), precursor to the CXN series. It sports a high degree of flexibility in terms of digital inputs, as well as a couple of ample performers in the Wolfson WM8740 DACs. I picked it up here on SNA about three years ago, and it's been a great (and very consistent) part of my system. It's in great condition, except for a surface mark on it's "roof" (presumably from a previous piece of equipment, see 3rd photo).   For streaming, I was running a Roon Rock NUC through it into my Yamaha

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

This is a buyer’s market for entry-level network streamers, and the A$450 asking price for this Cambridge Audio STREAM MAGIC 6 is ambitious, sitting well above the median of A$341 and the 75th percentile of A$368 from recent AUD comps. At nearly A$110 over the median, this listing costs more than most comparable used units, so it only becomes a worthwhile buy if the condition is pristine, original-owner, and includes all accessories or a warranty.

The Stream Magic 6 remains well-regarded for combining a DAC, streamer, and digital preamp in one chassis, delivering solid Wolfson WM8740-based performance up to 24-bit/384kHz with versatile digital inputs. If this unit is in excellent shape with no missing cables or firmware issues, the extra cost reflects rarity and care, but at this price, a buyer should expect provenance and completeness to justify stepping outside the typical A$287–A$368 range.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About Cambridge Audio

Cambridge Audio emerged from the innovative spirit of 1960s Britain, founded in Cambridge, United Kingdom, by a group of young engineers who spun off from Cambridge Consulting Group. Established in 1968, the brand launched with the groundbreaking P40 integrated amplifier—the first to employ a toroidal transformer, setting a new standard for dynamic power delivery in hi-fi design that endures in high-end gear today. This heritage of British engineering excellence propelled decades of award-winning products, navigating ownership changes including a revival under entrepreneur Vince Adams and acquisition in 1994 by Julian Richer and James Johnson-Flint of Richer Sounds.

The brand excels across core hi-fi categories, renowned for integrated amplifiers like the iconic A1 and P-series, alongside streaming DACs, network players, turntables, and all-in-one systems that prioritize pure analogue warmth and digital precision. Speakers, headphones, and cables round out a cohesive ecosystem, emphasizing accessible high performance without excess frills.

Positioned firmly in the mid-tier market, Cambridge Audio delivers premium British sound—detailed, rhythmic, and uncolored—at prices that democratize quality for discerning buyers. Free from corporate bloat, it holds a reputation for reliability and value, appealing to enthusiasts seeking sophisticated hi-fi that punches above its weight rather than chasing ultra-high-end esoterica.
