Canton traces its roots to 1972, when four hi-fi enthusiasts—Hubert Milbers, Otfried Sandig, Wolfgang Seitkritt, and Günther Seitz—founded the company in the small German town of Weilrod, near Frankfurt. Registering the name as a blend of the Latin "cantare" (to sing) and German "Ton" (musical tone), they began operations in a repurposed village schoolhouse with 35 employees assembling speaker enclosures. Still family-owned and led by descendants like Günther Seitz, Canton embodies enduring German engineering precision, manufacturing primarily in Niederlauken and Weilrod.
