Klangfilm was founded in 1928 as a joint venture between two German industrial giants, Siemens and AEG (which owned Telefunken), with additional backing from Siemens and Halske and Polyphon. The company was established to develop and exploit sound-film technology during the early era of cinema sound. In 1929, Klangfilm merged with Tobis to form Tobis-Klangfilm, which became a dominant force in European sound-on-film patents and technology. This heritage positioned the company at the forefront of professional audio innovation during the twentieth century's most transformative decades.

Klangfilm's product portfolio centered on cinema and professional audio equipment, including amplifiers, loudspeakers, and sound-recording apparatus designed for 35mm magnetic film.
