Seller's Description

Genelec 8040B Studio Monitors I'm selling a pair of Genelec 8040B speakers that I originally purchased from a friend. These are high-quality studio monitors with outstanding sound clarity, perfect for professional use or serious music enthusiasts.   I'm not working from home anymore so they're not being used enough. They are in excellent working condition. However, they do have some cosmetic scratches (visible in the photos) from a house move when they were packed with other items; hence the low price. Reduced price couple of hundreds to reflect this. These scratches are purely aesthetic and d

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

This is a buyer’s market if the speakers are genuinely dead, because for-parts 8040B money should be far below normal working used value, not near it. A healthy used pair of Genelec 8040B monitors is commonly in the A$2,200–A$3,000 zone in Australia equivalent, so A$1,500 for a non-working pair is only attractive if you specifically want a repair project or have a clear parts value in mind.

What makes them worth attention is the core Genelec appeal: compact nearfields with very good translation, solid low-end for the size, and the kind of build quality that keeps older Genelecs in circulation. The upside is real if the fault is simple and the cabinets, drivers, and amps are intact, but for-parts means you should assume repair risk first and sound quality second; without testing, this is a parts lot, not a safe cheap buy.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About Genelec

Genelec Oy traces its roots to 1978 in the small Finnish town of Iisalmi, where engineers Ilpo Martikainen and Topi Partanen co-founded the company. It began with a 1976 commission from the Finnish Broadcasting Corporation to design active studio monitors for their Helsinki headquarters, leading to the flagship S30 model—a pioneering speaker with advanced amplification, driver protection, and a proprietary ribbon tweeter that set new benchmarks in precision audio.

The brand specializes in active loudspeaker systems, focusing on professional studio monitors for recording, mixing, mastering, broadcast, and film production. Genelec's portfolio emphasizes nearfield, midfield, and main monitors, often enhanced by innovations like Smart Active Monitoring (SAM), Genelec Loudspeaker Manager (GLM) software for room calibration, and immersive audio solutions. While primarily pro-oriented, their products appeal to discerning home audiophiles seeking uncolored, adaptable sound reproduction.

Genelec holds a commanding position as a high-end leader in professional audio monitoring, renowned for Finnish engineering excellence, technological firsts, and unwavering neutrality. Over four decades, it has equipped the world's top studios, earning a reputation for reliability, innovation, and sustainable design that discerning hi-fi buyers trust for truthful sound without compromise.
