Seller's Description

Mission 770 (2023) Standmount Loudspeakers I am regretfully downsizing my system due to a change in living circumstances.   I am the second owner of these fabulous speakers, bought from another SNA’er in September of 2024. The speakers themselves are still in as new showroom condition, the stands have a couple of minor blemishes on them, but you can't see them when the speakers are on the stands. I wasn't able to reduce the file size enough to upload all of the images I have of them, but I am happy to take more and send directly to serious buyers if you require them. I still have all of the or

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

Is A$4,500 the right price for a used Mission 770? It's ambitious—pushing the upper end against a tight local market range of AUD$3,874 to AUD$4,306 (median AUD$4,168 from three recent comps). These vintage '90s floorstanders hold value for their lively dynamics and bass punch, but without condition details, you're paying a premium over fair play; negotiate down to mid-range for peace of mind.

Before biting, verify the drivers—woofers often foam-rot by now, so check for replacements or signs of decay, and test the tweeters for crisp highs without distortion. Confirm original grilles, spikes, and serial-matched pair; ask for service history to dodge hidden recap needs on the crossovers. Solid examples sing, but tired ones disappoint.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About Mission

Mission Electronics, a British hi-fi icon, was founded in 1977 by Farad Azima in the UK, rapidly emerging as a pioneer in acoustic engineering. Azima, a former audio importer and distributor, infused the brand with innovative drive, launching the revolutionary Mission 770 loudspeaker in 1978—the world's first with a commercial polypropylene bass unit. This debut set benchmarks for clarity and bass response, propelling Mission to prominence amid the golden era of British hi-fi.

The brand excels in loudspeakers across sectors, from seminal 1970s and 1980s models like the 770 to high-end masterpieces such as the 2001 Pilastro, Elegante, and SX series. Under Peter Comeau's acoustic leadership since 1999, Mission has expanded into hi-fi electronics, including amplifiers and home cinema systems, while maintaining an engineering-first ethos. Now part of the International Audio Group since 2005, with production in Shenzhen, it leverages advanced manufacturing for components like cables and turntable ancillaries, though speakers remain its core strength.

Mission holds mid-to-high-end status, revered by discerning buyers for award-winning performance—What Hi-Fi? Best Loudspeaker (2000, 2001), EISA Speaker of the Year (2001, 2003)—and timeless appeal. A management buyout refined its retail focus, positioning it as a reliable benchmark against pricier rivals, blending heritage innovation with accessible excellence for serious audiophiles.
