Our Thoughts RADAR AI

This is a buyer’s market for this kind of older Canton, and €110 looks like a solid buy rather than a stretch. Current asking and sold examples for the GLE 70 cluster mostly sit around roughly €110 to €150, with weaker pieces dipping lower and cleaner pairs pushing toward €170-€230, so this listing lands near the low end of normal and below where many nice pairs trade.

That makes the “excellent” condition meaningful here: if the cabinets, drivers, and surrounds are truly clean, it’s a very fair entry point. The GLE 70 is well liked for its lively, easy-going presentation and respectable bass for a vintage floorstander, so a tidy pair at this price is exactly the sort of used-hifi buy that can deliver a lot without drama.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About Canton

Canton traces its roots to 1972, when four hi-fi enthusiasts—Hubert Milbers, Otfried Sandig, Wolfgang Seitkritt, and Günther Seitz—founded the company in the small German town of Weilrod, near Frankfurt. Registering the name as a blend of the Latin "cantare" (to sing) and German "Ton" (musical tone), they began operations in a repurposed village schoolhouse with 35 employees assembling speaker enclosures. Still family-owned and led by descendants like Günther Seitz, Canton embodies enduring German engineering precision, manufacturing primarily in Niederlauken and Weilrod.

The brand focuses squarely on loudspeakers, offering over 300 models across 12 series tailored to diverse budgets, room sizes, and applications—from compact bookshelf designs and the pioneering 1979 sub/sat system to high-end Reference lines and wireless innovations. While speakers dominate, Canton also produces complementary hi-fi components, blending traditional cabinetry with digital amplification advancements, all subjected to rigorous quality controls.

Positioned as a mid-to-high-end mainstay in the global hi-fi market, Canton commands respect for its "pure music" philosophy, exporting to 53 countries with a reputation for reliable, elegant performance that appeals to discerning buyers seeking value without compromise. Independent of corporate conglomerates, it remains a smart, appreciating investment for audiophiles valuing Made-in-Germany craftsmanship.
