Our Thoughts RADAR AI

Mission’s M73 sits in that sweet spot of an older, properly built floorstander that still has real hi-fi credibility. At AUD A$120, this is a strong bargain versus the recent local market: well below the A$128 25th percentile and comfortably under the A$264 median.

That makes it a very easy buy if the drivers, surrounds, and cabinets are clean. The M73 is worth a look for buyers who want a musical, full-range speaker with genuine scale and more body than many modern budget boxes; in very good condition, the upside is especially good if the pair is complete and has been kept original. Just verify there’s no cone or veneer damage and that both speakers sound balanced.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About Mission

Mission Electronics, a British hi-fi icon, was founded in 1977 by Farad Azima in the UK, rapidly emerging as a pioneer in acoustic engineering. Azima, a former audio importer and distributor, infused the brand with innovative drive, launching the revolutionary Mission 770 loudspeaker in 1978—the world's first with a commercial polypropylene bass unit. This debut set benchmarks for clarity and bass response, propelling Mission to prominence amid the golden era of British hi-fi.

The brand excels in loudspeakers across sectors, from seminal 1970s and 1980s models like the 770 to high-end masterpieces such as the 2001 Pilastro, Elegante, and SX series. Under Peter Comeau's acoustic leadership since 1999, Mission has expanded into hi-fi electronics, including amplifiers and home cinema systems, while maintaining an engineering-first ethos. Now part of the International Audio Group since 2005, with production in Shenzhen, it leverages advanced manufacturing for components like cables and turntable ancillaries, though speakers remain its core strength.

Mission holds mid-to-high-end status, revered by discerning buyers for award-winning performance—What Hi-Fi? Best Loudspeaker (2000, 2001), EISA Speaker of the Year (2001, 2003)—and timeless appeal. A management buyout refined its retail focus, positioning it as a reliable benchmark against pricier rivals, blending heritage innovation with accessible excellence for serious audiophiles.
