I’m the second owner of this Onkyo HT receiver. It’s a real powerhouse at 135 wpc. I picked it up around ten years ago from the original owner used it very sparingly in a HT set up. I’ve had active speakers for most of that time so the internal amps were rarely used.It comes wit...
Condition is unknown, so at A$350 this lands a bit above the A$248 median and below the A$510 75th percentile—totally reasonable, but not a standout bargain. If it’s clean and fully working, I’d call it fair-to-good money rather than cheap; if it includes the remote, calibration mic, and original packaging, it starts to look more appealing.
This is a well-regarded AVR for sound quality, strong room correction, and a very capable feature set for legacy 5.1/7.1 systems. The big upside is getting a respected, feature-rich Onkyo at a sensible used price; the main things to confirm are HDMI stability, network functions, and whether all the accessories are present, since age and missing bits matter more than chasing tiny cosmetic flaws here.

Onkyo traces its roots to postwar Japan, founded in 1946 in Osaka by Takeshi Goda, an engineer at Matsushita Electric who envisioned high-quality Japanese loudspeakers. Initially established as Osaka Denki Onkyo K.K., the company began production in 1948 with the acclaimed ED-100 speaker featuring a 25 cm driver, quickly building a reputation through LP concerts and innovative designs that resonated with audiophiles.
The brand excels in premium home audio, renowned for AV receivers, hi-fi amplifiers, and surround sound speakers that deliver exceptional clarity and power. Its portfolio spans turntables, DACs, headphones, and cables, bolstered by acquisitions like Pioneer's home electronics division in 2015, enabling cutting-edge integrations such as internet radio and high-resolution streaming.
Onkyo holds a solid mid-tier position in the hi-fi market, prized by discerning buyers for reliable performance and value rather than ultra-high-end exotica. Despite bankruptcy challenges in the late 2010s, its revival under new ownership preserves a legacy of technological innovation and pure sound enjoyment, appealing to both vintage enthusiasts and modern home cinema setups.
