Seller's Description

Canton Chrono SL 596DC Floorstanding Loudspeakers Canton Chrono SL 596 DC Floorstanding Speakers.   For sale due to my end game speakers now in the house are my ‘as new’ Canton Chrono SL 596 DC speakers in deep Gloss black.   I bought new in mid-2022 from Rio Sound & Vision, there is still 3 years warranty remaining, Rrp was $5,000   No scratches, chips or marks to the exterior, beautiful furniture grade mirror finish.    All grills (magnetic) in excellent condition, one is as new, the other has one or two very slight pulls in the fabric, but hard to notice. Of course if you run without grills

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

Canton Chrono SL 596 DC floorstanders sit near the top of the glossy SL series, prized for their extroverted dynamics, deep bass from dual 180mm woofers, and sleek high-gloss cabinets that punch above their original AUD3,500–4,000 MSRP. At AUD1,950 used, this strikes me as a fair ask—aligning with typical secondhand ranges of AUD1,500–2,500 for well-kept pairs, especially given Kleinanzeigen comps converting to around AUD400–1,200 for lower SL models in rougher shape.

Buyers, verify the DC drivers for any surround degradation (common after 15+ years) by playing deep bass tracks and checking for even response—no rattles or asymmetry. Insist on original grilles, spikes, and manuals; test impedance stability with your amp, as the 4–8Ω rating demands solid current to avoid strain.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About Canton

Canton traces its roots to 1972, when four hi-fi enthusiasts—Hubert Milbers, Otfried Sandig, Wolfgang Seitkritt, and Günther Seitz—founded the company in the small German town of Weilrod, near Frankfurt. Registering the name as a blend of the Latin "cantare" (to sing) and German "Ton" (musical tone), they began operations in a repurposed village schoolhouse with 35 employees assembling speaker enclosures. Still family-owned and led by descendants like Günther Seitz, Canton embodies enduring German engineering precision, manufacturing primarily in Niederlauken and Weilrod.

The brand focuses squarely on loudspeakers, offering over 300 models across 12 series tailored to diverse budgets, room sizes, and applications—from compact bookshelf designs and the pioneering 1979 sub/sat system to high-end Reference lines and wireless innovations. While speakers dominate, Canton also produces complementary hi-fi components, blending traditional cabinetry with digital amplification advancements, all subjected to rigorous quality controls.

Positioned as a mid-to-high-end mainstay in the global hi-fi market, Canton commands respect for its "pure music" philosophy, exporting to 53 countries with a reputation for reliable, elegant performance that appeals to discerning buyers seeking value without compromise. Independent of corporate conglomerates, it remains a smart, appreciating investment for audiophiles valuing Made-in-Germany craftsmanship.
