Seller's Description

Gorgeous Dual 1219 for sale. This legendary turntable has been rated in the top 10 turntables ever designed and manufactured. Recently restored to it's former glory, this deck works as Dual intended it too. It comes with the multiplay spindle and the single play spindle. It has been set up for automatic functions. Stack 5 records and sit back and listen to them play instead of having to get up every 23 minutes and change the record. This 1219 is the 2nd generation and highly sought after by audiophiles and collectors. The reason why is all levers are solid metal and will not break. Also the ribbed platter is heavier than both the 1229 and 1229q turntables cutting down distortion and rumbling. The plinth and dust cover are both in excellent shape and the dust cover has been custom sound deadend for optimum performance. The tonearm has been balanced and all adjustments have been made with the fantastic Shure M91ed cartridge and a new stylus. All levers, cams and switches have been meticulously cleaned and lubricated. Both bearings in the motor have been lubricated and the idler wheel had been inspected and serviced. The platter edge has been polished and the mat is in fabulous condition. A new upgraded RCA cable has also been installed. This turntable is working perfectly but it is not flawless so please look at all the photos carefully. Read the online reviews of this incredible turntable and take advantage of it before it's too late. Take all the time you need to decide, but my restored turntables sell fast!!! Rest assured this will be extremely well packed for shipment. This one won't last for long!!! Thank you for looking. Roger

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

Are you buying a serviced, fully working example, or an untested 50-year-old project? At US$875, this is above the nine-listing median of US$775 and above the 75th-percentile asking price, so it looks ambitious unless the condition and restoration are exceptional. With no condition details, the price is difficult to justify against the available market evidence.

The 1219 remains a worthwhile deck: its heavy platter, robust idler drive, long gimballed arm, and capable automatic mechanism give it excellent presence and genuinely good sound. It also offers 33, 45, and 78 rpm playback. At this money, look for documented servicing, smooth single/multi-play operation, quiet motor bearings, reliable cueing, clean cartridge-carrier contacts, and careful shipping preparation. Without that reassurance—or a particularly fine original-owner example—there should be room to negotiate toward the US$775 median.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About Dual

Dual emerged from the Black Forest region of Germany in 1907, when brothers Christian and Joseph Steidinger began manufacturing clockwork and gramophone components in St. Georgen. The company adopted its now-iconic name in 1927 after pioneering dual-mode power supplies that allowed gramophones to operate from either mains electricity or mechanical wind-up mechanisms. This innovation marked the beginning of Dual's transition from component supplier to full-fledged audio manufacturer, establishing a foundation of engineering precision that would define the brand for decades.

Dual built its reputation primarily as a turntable specialist, becoming Europe's largest turntable manufacturer by the post-war era with over 3,000 employees across multiple factories. Beyond vinyl playback, the company expanded into cassette players, CD players, and broader consumer electronics throughout the 1970s and 1980s, demonstrating versatility across analog and digital formats. The company's focus on mechanical excellence and stable drive systems earned it recognition as a dependable, quality-focused manufacturer throughout its European heyday.

Today, Dual occupies a fragmented market position following corporate restructuring in the 1990s and subsequent ownership changes. The original German turntable line continues production in St. Georgen under Alfred Fehrenbacher GmbH, maintaining traditional manufacturing standards and appealing to vintage enthusiasts and collectors. Separately, Namsung Electronics markets Dual-branded consumer electronics in the Americas at accessible price points. The brand's legacy rests primarily on its classic turntables, which remain highly sought after by collectors and audiophiles valuing precision engineering and heritage craftsmanship.
