A unit in this condition has already passed a long journey: it was selected, inspected, prepared, and photographed honestly so the buyer can understand exactly what is being purchased. Many similar units online may be cheaper, but they may also be dusty, incomplete, unserviced, cosmetically weaker, or sold without proper testing.🧠 Collector’s / Model NoteThe Integra series represents Onkyo's high-end engineering philosophy, built with low-impedance drive capability and ultra-clean power distribution. Released in the early 1990s, the A-8850 is highly regarded for its robust power supply, dual-mono design elements, and exceptional Phono stage supporting both MM and MC cartridges. Against five recent comparable listings, the US$818 asking price lands exactly at the 75th percentile: notably above the US$193 median and US$173 25th-percentile mark. That makes it ambitious rather than a market bargain, and it needs unusually strong condition, service history, or completeness to justify the premium.
The A-8850 is a substantial, well-equipped vintage Integra: a powerful 80-watt-per-channel amplifier with useful MM/MC phono, broad input provision, strong current delivery, and a solid, weighty build. It can be a very satisfying centerpiece for a vintage system, especially if fully tested and recently serviced. However, age-related input-selector/direct-switch problems and speaker-relay faults are known concerns, so at US$818 the listing should document clean switching, both channels, phono operation, and ideally service work; otherwise, negotiation is warranted.

Onkyo traces its roots to postwar Japan, founded in 1946 in Osaka by Takeshi Goda, an engineer at Matsushita Electric who envisioned high-quality Japanese loudspeakers. Initially established as Osaka Denki Onkyo K.K., the company began production in 1948 with the acclaimed ED-100 speaker featuring a 25 cm driver, quickly building a reputation through LP concerts and innovative designs that resonated with audiophiles.
The brand excels in premium home audio, renowned for AV receivers, hi-fi amplifiers, and surround sound speakers that deliver exceptional clarity and power. Its portfolio spans turntables, DACs, headphones, and cables, bolstered by acquisitions like Pioneer's home electronics division in 2015, enabling cutting-edge integrations such as internet radio and high-resolution streaming.
Onkyo holds a solid mid-tier position in the hi-fi market, prized by discerning buyers for reliable performance and value rather than ultra-high-end exotica. Despite bankruptcy challenges in the late 2010s, its revival under new ownership preserves a legacy of technological innovation and pure sound enjoyment, appealing to both vintage enthusiasts and modern home cinema setups.
