Our Thoughts RADAR AI

With the S400 MKII still current—no replacement on the horizon as of mid-2026—timing this purchase is solid; these redesigned standmounts with paper-cone woofers and massive passive radiators hold value well, punching above their weight in bass and imaging. At AUD3,250 for a special colour variant in unknown condition, it's ambitious bordering on steep: typical used MKIIs in excellent shape trade for AUD2,200-2,800, based on recent US/EU sales adjusted for our market, with pristine four-month-old pairs fetching under AUD2,500 new-like.

Buyers, verify condition closely—check for cabinet dents, woofer surround tears, or faded passive radiators from sun exposure, common on re-sales. Confirm original box, grilles, cloth covers, and transferable 5-year warranty docs are included; without them, walk unless deeply discounted. Stands often sold separate, so clarify.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About Buchardt

Buchardt Audio traces its roots to Denmark, where founder Mads Buchardt and his childhood friend Kasper began developing speaker designs in 2008 under the informal banner of Rabu Acoustics, initially selling components like drivers and crossover parts. The company officially launched in 2013 with the S200 and S300 models, leveraging advanced measurement technology—including a pioneering robot that enabled precise waveguide engineering for the groundbreaking S400, the world's first hi-fi speaker designed with such tools.

The brand focuses exclusively on high-performance speakers, offering both passive and active models in bookshelf and standmount categories, such as the acclaimed S400 Mk3 and E50. Production occurs at the ISO-certified Hansong factory in Nanjing, China—a Danish-Chinese partnership emphasizing quality—allowing Buchardt to handcraft audiophile-grade units without venturing into amplifiers, DACs, headphones, or other categories.

Buchardt holds a strong position in the high-end market as a niche boutique innovator, delivering Scandinavian design and "big sound" from compact form factors at accessible prices by skipping traditional dealers. Renowned among audiophiles for precision engineering and value, it redefines expectations for performance-driven hi-fi.
