The age matters here: the SETi-40 is a classic, long-discontinued 845-based single-ended tube amplifier rather than a current-generation product, while the P5 is also an older power regenerator. At £1,537, this package sits clearly above the £1,249 75th-percentile comparable and well above the £746 median, so it looks ambitious rather than an obvious bargain.
The amplifier remains the attraction: its 40W-per-channel output, strong bass for a single-ended design, and ability to drive reasonably efficient speakers make it a genuinely interesting enthusiast piece. The included P5 adds useful power conditioning and surge protection, but it should not be valued like a modern source component. At this money, insist on excellent cosmetic condition, confirmed 230V operation, healthy 845 and driver tubes, a quiet warm-up, and complete accessories; otherwise, a lower offer would be sensible.
Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.
