This is a buyer’s market for this category: A$1,051 sits well above the A$501 median and below the A$1,252 75th percentile, so it is fair for a clean, complete original R8 but not a bargain. The unknown condition and vague listing keep it from looking compelling at full ask; stronger examples or later variants need to justify the premium.
The R8 remains a serious, distinctive DAC: its fully discrete balanced R-2R architecture, configurable oversampling/NOS modes, native DSD support, and substantial analogue output stage give it an organic, highly adjustable presentation. It also offers both RCA and XLR outputs, with useful USB, coaxial, optical and I²S connectivity. Confirm the exact original model, mains-voltage version, remote, power/USB cables, display and all inputs before buying; at A$1,051, excellent cosmetic and operational condition should be non-negotiable.
Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.
