This is a seller’s market only if the listing is actually a later DR-100MKII or MKIII; for the original DR-100, €300 is far beyond sensible used-market value. Comparable DR-100-family recorders generally sit around €110–€160 used, with even newer MKIII examples appearing around €150–€280, so €300 is an ambitious ask rather than a bargain.
The DR-100 remains a capable, well-built field recorder: useful microphone preamps, balanced XLR inputs, solid metering, and dependable portable recording make it attractive for location work and hi-fi transfers. But age matters, especially battery health, the proprietary rechargeable pack, card compatibility, screen condition, and whether the power supply, windscreen, and remote are included. At €300, it would need to be an unusually clean, complete, genuinely later-generation unit; otherwise, negotiate hard or pass.

Tascam is a Japanese professional-audio brand whose roots trace back to TEAC, founded in 1953 by the Tani brothers. The TASCAM name emerged in the late 1960s as TEAC Audio Systems Corporation, and it was formally established in 1971 as TEAC’s U.S. distribution and development arm for recorder products aimed at musicians and studios.
The brand is best known for recorders, mixers, field recorders, multitrack production units, audio interfaces, and related studio gear. Its catalogue has historically centered on practical recording tools rather than lifestyle hi-fi, with strong associations to cassette Portastudios, reel-to-reel machines, and compact pro-audio components.
In the market, Tascam sits in the pro-audio and project-studio space rather than the high-end audiophile tier. Its reputation is built on utility, durability, and value, and some vintage models have become collector favorites, but the brand is not typically positioned as a boutique or luxury hi-fi name.
