Spendor BC 3 Standmount Loudspeakers Price Drop.... I just don't have the space so need to find them a new home. If only I could keep everything! I've enjoyed these for a couple of years now but it's time to move them on. One of the woofers was repaired by Jason the Speaker Doctor and the speakers now all work perfectly as they should. https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&q=spendor+bc3#vhid=NEfC2SSA4HozZM&vssid=l Condition: Fair Payment Method: EFT, Cash on Pick Up Region/State: (WA) Western Australia/Australia By BetaBoy 0 Comments Secure Ad AUD $1,250 Date: August 3, 2024
The A$1,250 asking price sits just above the A$1,200 fair-condition listing recently seen on StereoNet, making it a fair market value rather than a bargain, especially since the BC-3 is a vintage standmount now replaced by Spendor’s modern S-series. With no condition details provided, this price reflects a typical used median for this generation, not an outlier deal.
The BC-3 remains well-regarded for its warm, balanced midrange and smooth treble—hallmarks of classic Spendor design that avoid the harshness common in budget standmounts. Its compact size and musicality make it ideal for smaller rooms or desktop hi-fi setups. If these are original-owner speakers with intact rubber feet and clean grilles, they offer genuine sonic value at this price; missing accessories or worn surrounds would be the only material concerns worth negotiating down.

Spendor, a quintessential British hi-fi brand, traces its origins to the late 1960s when BBC sound engineer Spencer Hughes and his wife Dorothy founded the company in Sussex, England—the name itself a clever fusion of "Spen" and "Dor." Drawing on Spencer's expertise alongside co-designer Dudley Harwood, they pioneered the BC1 loudspeaker in 1969, featuring the world's first commercial 8-inch plastic cone driver made from innovative Bextrene material. This breakthrough quickly established Spendor as the monitor of choice for broadcasters, recording studios, and discerning listeners worldwide, setting a benchmark for transparent, natural sound.
The brand focuses exclusively on loudspeakers, designing, engineering, and hand-building every driver, crossover, and cabinet in their Sussex facility. Their lineup spans the accessible A series for mainstream buyers, the premium D series for high-end performance, and the Classic line, which revives iconic designs like the BC1 with modern polymer and Kevlar cones, cast-magnesium chassis, and advanced motor systems. Spendor eschews amplifiers, turntables, or headphones, prioritizing pure speaker innovation rooted in BBC-honed precision.
Today, under owner Philip Swift since 2000, Spendor holds a revered position as a high-end, heritage British marque, blending vintage collector appeal with contemporary excellence. Renowned among audiophiles and professionals for smooth, low-distortion imaging and musicality, it remains a global reference standard, entirely made in the UK to captivate serious hi-fi enthusiasts.
