Seller's Description

There you have it - the big Kahuna, the top of the heap (IMHO) of silver-face Pioneer tape decks.Immaculate -- essentially in near-pristine condition, from an estate of an audiophile, as they frequently come.Everything works as it should. With that said, all the needed repairs have been professionally done to the tune of $260 and included:Capstan beltsPinch roller tiresFixing right and left auto-stop mechanismsCleaning and lubrication of chassis and potentiometersCleaning and demagnetization of headsThe original feet (which are fragile and frequently broken on the 909s) have been replaced with more robust 3D printed ones and are shown in the pictures. The cosmetic condition is truly great. Please see the pictures - they're part of the description. See video for a demo. I had an iPod hooked up to the inputs - so, you can hear the 'source' (jumping from Bach to the 21st century...:-)).You will get what you see in those pictures:1) Metal RT 909-specific takeup reel2) Original nab hubs3) 10.5" TDK reel with tape (pre-recorded)So, have a look at the pictures and the video - it is in an excellent condition. All the lights work. All functions as well, including recording. Heads are excellent as well. Very sweet!_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________Perhaps you can find it listed elsewhere for less (and I have seen them go for MORE) - but, in my case, you would be getting a thoroughly checked-out and refreshed unit with no stories. I only sell pampered equipment - not survivors of decades of abuse.NOTE - the IRS now forces sellers here and elsewhere to pay taxes; expect prices to go up!See the feedback; I don't buy items to flip - it's not a source of income for me (especially when you consider the Reverb fees), no matter what IRS would like to think. These are "rescues", something I enjoy doing. It will go out well packed and fully insured - most likely through Reverb Safe Shipping (their coverage and customer service is good) or UPS Ground directly (fully insured) - given the weight, it's not cheap but is WELL WORTH the surety it brings. I have shipped aplenty (and had many shipped to me - so I know what NOT to do). So - this is going to be a sizeable package when all is said and done - I am not making money on shipping.A standard disclaimer: While the unit is fully operational to the best of my knowledge, it is being sold "as-described" because some folks here and on other platforms harbor peculiar misapprehensions about how a 40-50 year old piece of vintage electronics should look and function.

About Pioneer

Pioneer traces its roots to 1937 in Tokyo, Japan, when founder Nozomu Matsumoto, inspired by the thrill of imported hi-fi speakers, developed the A-8 dynamic speaker and launched a radio and speaker repair shop. The business formalized as Fukuin Shokai Denki Seisakusho in 1938, evolving into Pioneer Corporation and embodying Matsumoto's philosophy of "Move the Heart and Touch the Soul" through audio innovation.

The brand excels across diverse hi-fi categories, pioneering Japan's first headphones in 1960 with the SE-1 and the world's first component-based stereo system in 1965 via the PSC-5A. Pioneer's portfolio spans amplifiers, speakers, turntables, and DACs, alongside landmark car audio advancements like the 1975 Supertuner-equipped stereo and the 1986 in-car CD player, blending home and automotive excellence.

Today, Pioneer holds a commanding mid-to-high-tier position in the market, revered for reliable, performance-driven gear that balances premium quality with accessibility. Its vintage components attract collectors, while current offerings appeal to discerning buyers seeking robust, innovative sound reproduction without boutique excess.
