Seller's Description

Revised from the ground up, the Connoisseur Series features the pure musical sound that made Energy speakers famous among audiophiles. The primary modification comes in the form of the proprietary Convergent Source Module. The incorporation of our patented Ribbed Elliptical Surrounds allows the drivers to perform with lower distortion and increases the piston area for increased air movement. And the final touch is front baffles that are hand-painted and -sanded in a seven-layer process of polyester gloss, then polished to a lustrous finish, to show we care about more than just one of the five senses. The CF-30 may be a compact tower, but the sound is anything but small. With two 5.5-inch woofers and a 1" hyperbolic dome tweeter, it has the punch that makes everything you listen to, from music to movies or games, come alive. The LowdownBig tower sound without the big tower. That's what the CF-30 delivers. Standing just 36 inches tall, this speaker offers surprising power and clarity. It's the ideal solution when space is at a premium. The black ash cabinets with high gloss black baffle and the gold plated 5-way binding posts reflect our attention to detail. This is one speaker that looks every bit as good as it sounds.

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

At USD300 for the pair, this is a fair ask on the Energy Connoisseur CF-30s—solid 2.5-way towers from the early 2000s Connoisseur line that punch above their weight with tight bass and lively highs. I've seen clean pairs flip on marketplaces for USD130-250 recently, while new-ish packages with matching centers hit USD600 back in the day, so it's not a steal but reasonable if cosmetic wear is minimal and they measure up sonically.

Before biting, verify the ribbed elliptical surrounds on those dual 5.5" woofers aren't degraded—common foam rot after 20 years can muddy the bass. Also check for clean binding posts and original grilles; missing feet or port plugs might signal rough handling. Test impedance stability under power to rule out voice coil issues.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About Energy

Energy Speakers emerged from Canada in 1973, rooted in a commitment to scientific loudspeaker engineering. Born from participation in the National Research Council of Canada's extensive study from 1977 to 1986, the brand quickly established its heritage with the iconic Energy Pro 22, a design that set benchmarks for accuracy and became a staple, evolving into the Connoisseur and Reference Connoisseur 22 lines. This foundation of research-driven innovation has defined Energy's unwavering pursuit of audiophile-quality sound reproduction.

The brand focuses squarely on loudspeakers, delivering categories from high-end Reference Connoisseur series to value-packed C-Series and RC-Mini wood-cabinet models. It has expanded into powered solutions with the Energy Power Series, including the pioneering Power Bar soundbar, which integrates seamlessly into modern systems without a receiver. While not delving into amplifiers, turntables, DACs, headphones, or cables, Energy prioritizes speakers renowned for sonic precision and spatial drama.

Positioned as a mid-tier contender with premium aspirations, Energy holds strong appeal among discerning buyers seeking powerful, accurate performance at accessible prices. Acquired by Klipsch Group in 2005 alongside Mirage, it maintains a reputation for reliability and value, backed by decades of critical acclaim in the competitive hi-fi market.
