Seller's Description

Revised from the ground up, the Connoisseur Series features the pure musical sound that made Energy speakers famous among audiophiles. The primary modification comes in the form of the proprietary Convergent Source Module. The incorporation of our patented Ribbed Elliptical Surrounds allows the drivers to perform with lower distortion and increases the piston area for increased air movement. And the final touch is front baffles that are hand-painted and -sanded in a seven-layer process of polyester gloss, then polished to a lustrous finish, to show we care about more than just one of the five senses. The CC-5 compact center channel is right at home either above or below your television. It produces clear dialogue and effects that will amaze you, coming from a small cabinet! The LowdownThe CC-5 is small in every way but its performance. The 0.75-inch aluminum dome tweeter and dual 4.5-inch woofers with Ribbed Elliptical Surround deliver tight, distortion-free low-frequency response to make music, movies and games sound more exciting and lifelike. The black ash finish with high-gloss black baffle looks great with any new flat panel monitor.

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

At USD$200 for a used Energy Connoisseur CC-5, you're looking at a fair-to-good price depending on condition and age. These compact center channels typically move in the USD$150–$250 range on the used market, so this sits comfortably in the middle. The CC-5 is a solid performer—dual 4.5-inch woofers and a 0.75-inch aluminum tweeter deliver clean dialogue and balanced midrange, making it a sensible match for vintage or budget-conscious home theater builds. If the unit is cosmetically clean and the drivers are undamaged, it's worth the ask.

Before committing, verify that both woofers move freely and produce no rattle or distortion at moderate volume—foam rot on the surround is the typical failure point on older units. Confirm the gold-plated binding posts are intact and the rear-firing port isn't obstructed. Ask the seller about age and whether it's been stored in a stable environment; these speakers are forgiving, but prolonged heat or humidity can degrade the crossover. The manual and rubber bumpers are nice-to-haves but not deal-breakers if missing.

About Energy

Energy Speakers emerged from Canada in 1973, rooted in a commitment to scientific loudspeaker engineering. Born from participation in the National Research Council of Canada's extensive study from 1977 to 1986, the brand quickly established its heritage with the iconic Energy Pro 22, a design that set benchmarks for accuracy and became a staple, evolving into the Connoisseur and Reference Connoisseur 22 lines. This foundation of research-driven innovation has defined Energy's unwavering pursuit of audiophile-quality sound reproduction.

The brand focuses squarely on loudspeakers, delivering categories from high-end Reference Connoisseur series to value-packed C-Series and RC-Mini wood-cabinet models. It has expanded into powered solutions with the Energy Power Series, including the pioneering Power Bar soundbar, which integrates seamlessly into modern systems without a receiver. While not delving into amplifiers, turntables, DACs, headphones, or cables, Energy prioritizes speakers renowned for sonic precision and spatial drama.

Positioned as a mid-tier contender with premium aspirations, Energy holds strong appeal among discerning buyers seeking powerful, accurate performance at accessible prices. Acquired by Klipsch Group in 2005 alongside Mirage, it maintains a reputation for reliability and value, backed by decades of critical acclaim in the competitive hi-fi market.
