Overview

Featuring the Maria 350 Amplifier specially tuned for Amber Midnight Floorstanding Speakers, and including carefully selected speaker cables (4m length) for a complete system, just add a source!

Daniel Hertz makes only one amplifier: Maria, the pinnacle of Mark Levinson's design expertise. The Maria 350 is a stereo (2-channel) model, while the Maria 800 is a 4-channel model with active crossovers and time alignment for bi-amplified speakers.

Maria is an all-in-one audio solution, replacing the DAC, preamplifier, power amplifier, headphone amplifier, and interconnect cables. It features fully programmable active crossovers and time alignment.

Maria - A Paradigm Shift in Audio Amplification

Personally designed by Mark Levinson, Maria sets a new sonic standard, reminiscent of the iconic Mark Levinson LNP-2 Preamplifier and Cello Audio Palette. It combines minimalist design with exceptional craftsmanship, akin to the finest watches and cameras.

As legendary audio journalist Bert Whyte remarked about Mark's work in 1972, Maria is, "monetary considerations aside... the premier choice."

Handmade in Venice, Italy, Maria boasts high performance with artisan materials and craftsmanship previously unseen in audio products.

Features

• Independent, no-compromise headphone amplifier with a ¼” jack on the front panel, enhancing the sound of all high-performance headphones.

• Embedded Mighty Cat software suite with DH exclusive C Wave technology (patent approved 2024), upgrading all digital audio signals to have the sound and emotion of pure analog audio.

• Inputs: 3 analog 1 megohm inputs, digital coax.

• Speaker outputs: DH in-house made speaker connector outputs on the rear panel.

• Headphone jack: ¼” headphone jack on the front panel.

Despite its compact, lightweight, and energy-efficient design, the Maria 350 drives even the largest and most demanding speakers with pure analog sound from streaming, as well as the DH Eva (compact) and Amber (floor-standing) models.

The Maria 800 drives DH bi-amplified speakers M1, M4, and Chiara. Its active crossovers can be programmed to drive any bi-amplified speaker with full control of crossover points, slopes, and levels.

Maria includes a power cord (for the country of use), a USB cable, and a carrying case. When a Maria 350 is delivered with DH speakers, a 4m pair of cables is included. For the Maria 800, a 4m pair x 2 is included for bi-amplification.

Maria is named in honor of Mark Levinson’s mother, Maria Hertz Levinson, who in 1966 sold her cello to buy him the Italian double bass he plays today. Her love and sacrifice are forever commemorated in this exceptional amplifier

Amber Midnight Speakers

Hand-built in Venice, Italy, by dedicated artisans and engineers, the Amber speaker meets the highest standards in music reproduction.

Amber Midnight is a versatile speaker that handles all music genres with ease, from the most delicate to the most powerful. It delivers warm, full, clear sound, coupled with the speed, punch, dynamics, and vitality necessary to capture the beginnings of notes that bring music to life. Amber Midnight satisfies both the most demanding music lovers and the most discerning interior designers.

Amber is built with a 10” coaxial driver featuring a center tweeter for pinpoint imaging. Using pro audio technology and specifications, Amber Midnight is 97dB efficient, has a 118dB dynamic range, and produces 100dB of sound pressure level (SPL) with just 3 Watts of power. While it can be driven by any good amplifier, its full potential is realized with the DH Maria 350.

The original Amber with a wood cabinet was introduced in July 2023. In March 2024, DH introduced Amber Midnight, crafted from solid mirror finish Waveglas™ material for outstanding performance advantages. Waveglas™ is non-porous, 2.5 times denser than wood, and less resonant. The radius front panel of Amber Midnight enhances imaging.

Amber Midnight is available in various colors to match diverse decors, offering visual integration previously unavailable. In addition to mirror finish black, colors include ivory, anthracite, and dark Chinese red.

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

Ambitious asking price at AUD 37,000 for a used Daniel Hertz Amber HiFi System—likely the full Amber Midnight setup with Maria integrated amp, given the "system" tag and headphone amp nod. New Ambers alone retail around AUD 10,000-15,000 per pair, with Maria amps adding AUD 20,000+, so a complete rig might hit AUD 40,000 fresh. Used market data is thin, but similar high-end bundles in good shape trade at AUD 20,000-28,000 on forums like Audiogon, making this a stretch unless pristine and low hours.

Buyers, verify the exact config (Amber speakers, Maria 50/350 model, Mighty Cat streamer?) and insist on original boxes, remotes, and tuning certificates—Daniel Hertz amps are tunable per speaker. Check coaxial drivers for cone damage or surround rot, common in pro-spec 10" units after 2-3 years, and test dynamic range at 100dB+ SPL to confirm no compression. Power-up all functions, especially Bluetooth/USB DAC, before committing.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About Daniel Hertz

Daniel Hertz emerged in 2007 when audio pioneer Mark Levinson, founder of the legendary Mark Levinson Audio Systems and Cello Ltd., established the company in Switzerland. Drawing from his family's heritage—naming it after his father Daniel and his mother's maiden name Hertz, linked to physicist Heinrich Hertz—Levinson sought to revive his original vision of music reproduction that captures live performance emotion. Relocating to Switzerland post-2001 events that shuttered his prior venture, he assembled a team of elite engineers to pioneer disruptive technologies like C-Wave, transcending digital limitations for analog-like vitality.

The brand specializes in high-efficiency loudspeakers, power amplifiers, pre-amplifiers, and integrated amplifiers, with speakers hand-built in Venice, Italy, under Levinson's personal design oversight. Proprietary audio processing software and innovations such as Mighty Cat enhance playback from streaming to vinyl, while the company licenses its tech to firms like LG Electronics. This focus prioritizes compact, elegant systems that deliver uncompromised sound without industry hype.

Positioned firmly in the high-end audio realm, Daniel Hertz commands respect among discerning audiophiles for its engineering purity and rejection of marketing excess. Levinson's products represent his career pinnacle, blending boutique craftsmanship with cutting-edge science to evoke musical soul, appealing to buyers who demand reference-level performance over mass-market compromises.
