Overview

Likely Mark Levinson's last foray into hi-fi, Maria is an elegant slimline amplifier with built-in DAC and headphone amp. Maria uses a new amplification style that transforms even the harshest of digital signals into a smooth and warm sound signature reminiscent of the golden age of hi-fi.

Due to recent international price rises, this is an opportunity to delve into premium high fidelity, at a fraction of the usual cost.

Daniel Hertz makes only one amplifier: Maria, the pinnacle of Mark Levinson's design expertise. The Maria 350 is a stereo (2-channel) model, while the Maria 800 is a 4-channel model with active crossovers and time alignment for bi-amplified speakers.

Maria is an all-in-one audio solution, replacing the DAC, preamplifier, power amplifier, headphone amplifier, and interconnect cables. It features fully programmable active crossovers and time alignment.

Maria - A Paradigm Shift in Audio Amplification

Personally designed by Mark Levinson, Maria sets a new sonic standard, reminiscent of the iconic Mark Levinson LNP-2 Preamplifier and Cello Audio Palette. It combines minimalist design with exceptional craftsmanship, akin to the finest watches and cameras.

As legendary audio journalist Bert Whyte remarked about Mark's work in 1972, Maria is, "monetary considerations aside... the premier choice."

Handmade in Venice, Italy, Maria boasts high performance with artisan materials and craftsmanship previously unseen in audio products.

Features

• Independent, no-compromise headphone amplifier with a ¼” jack on the front panel, enhancing the sound of all high-performance headphones.

• Inputs: 3 analog 1 megohm inputs, digital coax.

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

This is a serious-sounding integrated/headphone amp, but the title is a bit muddy, so exact benchmarking is not perfect. Against your recent comp set, A$18,490 sits well below the A$18,690 25th percentile and massively under the A$143,961 median, so it reads as a strong bargain rather than a stretched ask.

Daniel Hertz gear is typically bought for its high-end, very polished sound and boutique scarcity, so a clean example can be a smart grab if you want something unusual and well-regarded. At this price, the key is simply confirming it’s fully functional, original, and complete with any remote, power supply, or documentation that should come with it; if so, it looks like an unusually accessible entry into a premium piece.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About Daniel Hertz

Daniel Hertz emerged in 2007 when audio pioneer Mark Levinson, founder of the legendary Mark Levinson Audio Systems and Cello Ltd., established the company in Switzerland. Drawing from his family's heritage—naming it after his father Daniel and his mother's maiden name Hertz, linked to physicist Heinrich Hertz—Levinson sought to revive his original vision of music reproduction that captures live performance emotion. Relocating to Switzerland post-2001 events that shuttered his prior venture, he assembled a team of elite engineers to pioneer disruptive technologies like C-Wave, transcending digital limitations for analog-like vitality.

The brand specializes in high-efficiency loudspeakers, power amplifiers, pre-amplifiers, and integrated amplifiers, with speakers hand-built in Venice, Italy, under Levinson's personal design oversight. Proprietary audio processing software and innovations such as Mighty Cat enhance playback from streaming to vinyl, while the company licenses its tech to firms like LG Electronics. This focus prioritizes compact, elegant systems that deliver uncompromised sound without industry hype.

Positioned firmly in the high-end audio realm, Daniel Hertz commands respect among discerning audiophiles for its engineering purity and rejection of marketing excess. Levinson's products represent his career pinnacle, blending boutique craftsmanship with cutting-edge science to evoke musical soul, appealing to buyers who demand reference-level performance over mass-market compromises.
