Overview

Following Pathos Acoustics Design Philosophy, where tubes are used in the voltage-gain blocks, Patho's In-Power monoblocks use Pathos' patented InPol Technology as the output stage, essentially a passive current source is used in conjunction with the output transistors.

Because the output stage is essentially two Single Ended current amplifiers in one, it's unable to sink current below zero, so higher impedance speakers are a must to avoid clipping. A passive preamplifier is all you would need thanks to the high gain. The silver internal wiring is point to point.

Designer Gianni Borinato describes the In-Power as a balanced, double INPOL power amplifier, with zero-feedback, hand-matched. The MOSFET output stage is biased to run in class-A. Interestingly, and in a bid to minimise distortion, the input stage's two triode tubes are wired in opposite phase to form a double triode.

A directly coupled output stage, with no caps in the direct signal path of the speakers means there is no pop in the speakers when switching the amp on.

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

Should you pay A$8,400 for this one? Against your own recent comps, that is well above the typical used market: it’s far over the 75th percentile of A$2,567 and nowhere near the median A$1,515, so I’d call it ambitious to the point of being hard to justify unless there’s something unusually special here. For a buyer, that means the burden is on provenance, condition, and any meaningful extras to explain the gap.

What makes it worth considering is the brand’s reputation for a lively, musically involving presentation with real character rather than sterile power. If it’s genuinely clean, properly serviced, and comes from careful ownership with matching boxes, remote, or other original accessories, that can matter a lot for a rarer piece like this—but at this asking level, I’d want proof, not optimism.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About Pathos Acoustics

Pathos Acoustics emerged in 1994 from Vicenza, Italy, when three engineering pioneers—Gaetano Zanini, Gianni Borinato, and Paolo Andriolo—united around Borinato's revolutionary amplifier circuit idea. Born from a serendipitous collaboration in the architecturally rich northeastern city, the brand crystallized to champion InPoL technology, a patented Linear Pump Follower system that Pathos has refined into a cornerstone of its identity. Handcrafted in their Vicenza factory, every component reflects Italy's legacy of precision artistry fused with sonic innovation.

The company specializes in high-end hybrid amplifiers, blending vacuum tube warmth with solid-state control for integrated and preamp solutions like the acclaimed InPoL Heritage MkII. This pure Class A, fully balanced design emphasizes dynamic range, low distortion, and emotional depth, often incorporating tube input stages for analog richness. While amplifiers define their core, Pathos extends to preamplifiers, maintaining a focused portfolio that prioritizes proprietary tech over broad categories like speakers or sources.

Positioned as a boutique high-end marque, Pathos commands respect among discerning audiophiles for heirloom-quality builds and visceral sound that transcends mere fidelity. Its Italian craftsmanship and award-winning InPoL heritage elevate it beyond mid-tier competitors, appealing to buyers seeking sculptural masterpieces that deliver tube-like soul with modern slam in dedicated listening setups.
